Passed away peacefully at Palmerston North surrounded by his whanau, aged 95 years. Oldest child of Tame Peehi Poutu and Mere Joy Poutu (nee Coffin). Formerly of aria/Piopio, Puketihi/ohura, Turangi, ohaupo and Whangamomona. Husband of the late Patricia (Pat) Poutu (nee Thomas). Father and Father-in-Law of Diane & John Stevenson, Jeff and Margaret Poutu (Auckland), Steven Lewis Poutu, Rongonui Helen Poutu-Smith & David Smith, Suzanne Ngamuringa Poutu (Turangi), Waaka and Tracey Poutu, Penny Poutu (Palmerston North). Grandfather of 15 and Great-grandfather of 10.
Farewell to a coalminer, hunter and gatherer – gone for his final beer.
Johnny will lie at Mokau Kohunui Marae Piopio from lunchtime Friday 17th February 2023. The burial Service will be held on Saturday 18th February 2023 at 11.00am followed by burial at Mangakatote Urupa, Wairere Rd, Piopio.
