At this stage crews from all Lower Hutt Fire Stations are in attendance, along with with several from the Wellington Fire Area. Several premises along Seaview Road in the path of the smoke stream have been evacuated and will probably remain so for most of the day. As crews are drawing water from multiple water mains and hydrants along both sides of Seaview Road, it will also probably remain closed for most of the day.
Council staff are in attendance, providing guidance on water supplies, water run off, and any other council related issues.
So far this morning we have been in a defensive mode, trying to stop the fire spreading further into the pile of scrap metal. With full daylight and reinforced water supplies, and with assistance from onsite staff, we will now begin moving into a fire attack mode and begin pulling the pile of scrap metal apart to get to the seat of the fire.
For those affected by the road closure and evacuations, we thank you for your co-operation and patience.

Saturday 21 July between 1 and 5pm
Please join us this Saturday afternoon, to celebrate the opening of our latest exhibition featuring the amazing oil paintings by Iris Reesby. Meet the artist as she demonstrates her painting skills in the gallery and enjoy a refreshment and live jazz in the friendly ambience of Petone's seaside gallery. Music will be provided by Bill Wollerman, jazz pianist extraordinaire and friends.
In celebration of our wondrous native bird life, Artspace Gallery is hosting one of Wellington regions most talented bird artists, Iris Reesby. Iris has a magical passion for painting birds and we are very excited to see a collection of approx 40 of her paintings hung together. Iris paints exclusively in oils and her skilful and realistic portrayals of New Zealand birds and bush will hold you spellbound. Each painting tells a story, with well thought out quirky titles that will make you smile. In some, it almost feels as if you are walking through the bush. Iris is also skilled at painting florals (the iris of course being quite a favourite) and painting pets/animals, which she is often commissioned to paint.
Free and easy parking right outside the gallery and on the seaside.

At first I thought I was hearing/seeing things but after walking further on and heard it again for the third time (as it was dark) I decided to go back towards the vehicle to get their rego or a photo but they took off.
Please look out for the car and report them to the police. This something they could be doing on a regular basis and need to be stopped.
Not only do I want to protect the ducks but it is illegal to shoot ducks in a public place and a danger to others.
We need to stop these scumbags !!

Strokes affect people of all ages. Around a quarter of all strokes will occur in people under the age of 65 and about 40 children have a stroke every year in New Zealand.
Fundraising is important to enable the organisations who support people with strokes to continue their work.
This year Stroke Central and Kauri Theatre have joined forces to hold a fundraising ‘Bad Girls (& Boys) Ball’ on August 24, so named to reflect Kauri Theatre’s production of Bad Girls the Musical - to be staged in September at the Gryphon Theatre.
The ball is being held at The Boatshed in Wellington on Friday, August 24, 2018. It is not a fancy dress event just an opportunity to dress up and have fun The cost of the ticket includes live music, food, entertainment and spot prizes.
You can find out more and buy tickets at www.kauritheatre.org... or kauri@gmail.com or www.eventfinda.co.nz...
