Safety is at the heart of this decision, and even though todayโs slip has been cleared, there is a chance that further material may fall onto the road. We are working on restoring access to both lanes as soon as possible.
We appreciate the efforts of our staff and contractors who have worked through the weekend and today to achieve this result. We also acknowledge the communityโs patience this morning with the delays caused this morning travelling out of Wainuiomata.

Wainuiomata Road towards Lower Hutt is down to ONE LANE due to a large slip that occurred this morning (Sunday 21st August).
Please bear this in mind when planning your travel tomorrow to avoid traffic congestion as much as possible.

The road is open for travel in both directions however there is a 300 metre section which is down to one lane, controlled by the lights. Concrete blocks are in place protecting the open lane from new slips.
There will be delays through this area so please plan your travel times accordingly or avoid the area and use SH2 if possible to reduce congestion.
The traffic lights on Stokes Valley Rd before the Caltex service station will not operate tomorrow.
Further slip activity occurred near previous slips on Eastern Hutt Rd below Holborn Drive. Traffic management was already in place with shipping containers protecting the road ,and traffic is moving in both directions. A large tree at the top of one slip below Holborn Drive was removed.
We appreciate your ongoing understanding and patience while we work through this and ask all road users to continue to be courteous to other drivers.

If you have a mask exemption card please show this to staff. Do not be offended if we ask you to wear a mask, it is not always obvious when someone has an exemption.
๐โโ๏ธ POOLS ๐โ
The rules around where and when you need to wear a face mask at our pools remain the same, just when you're entering or moving about the facility.
Masks can be removed before you hop in the pool and start swimming. If you're supervising or just watching, we ask that you keep your mask on.
Ensuring you have the right mask, and that it is worn properly, will improve the overall effectiveness of wearing them and help reduce transmission of COVID-19, including Omicron. Thanks for helping keep everyone safe!
