Dearly loved wife and soulmate of Ross for 72 years, treasured mother and mother-in-law of Julie and Paul McEwan, Kerrie, and Dean and Michelle. ‘Crazy Grandma’ of Victoria, Brook (deceased), Mathew, and Ryan, Grace, and Claire, Marley, Flynn, and Ruby, ‘Great Old Granny’ of Isabelle, and Ella. On 6th May 2023 at Christchurch Hospital, aged 88 years. Elder son of Ernest and Esther Smith (Huntly) and brother of Donald (all deceased). Dearly loved by Marlene, his wife for 61 years. Loved by his four sons and daughters-in-law Anthony and Mary Grant, Richard (deceased 1976), Stephen and Julianne, and David Smith. Loved by his grandchildren Kellie, Joannah, Alexandra, Natalie, Isabella, Timothy, Sophie and Liam, and by the extended family. Dear friend of Joanne and Nicola. Respected teacher at Huntly College, Stockwell Manor Comprehensive School (London), Cashmere High School, Christchurch Polytechnic and Massey University. Founding member of NZ Organisation for Quality and founder of NZ Crest Awards (Creativity in Science and Technology). Life member of Rose Gardens Croquet Club (Palmerston North), Manawatu Croquet Association and Croquet New Zealand. Gordon was a keen reader, traveller and bridge player, a jazz enthusiast, and an accomplished sportsman.
