According to the Upper Hutt City Council, there is nothing in their bylaws to prevent a truck, caranvan, campervan and bus from permanent parking curbside anywhere residential in Upper Hutt.
With many streets in Upper Hutt so narrow that when two normal cars park either side parallel with each other vehicles cannot pass. I can think of one street where only a car parked curbside will cause a mini bus to slowly edge past. And yet a 44-seat bus, supercampervan or caravan and a monster truck, can gleefully take up any vacant space.
Could be that the UHCC should be bringing in sensible regulations regarding parking.

Although we are not sure where Flash comes from but we like the back story supplied by proud mum Kalista Campbell.

"If you're looking for a super sweet pup, with a kind personality, I am your girl! I am coming out of my shell with each day though I still have a journey ahead of me.
I am looking for a home with another dog that can help me grow and provide me with some support when life is scary. I have come so far since first arriving at SPCA and can't wait to continue learning more about the world in my home, my community and through training school. I am not the largest sibling in my litter though I will be medium to large once fully grown. All the more to love!
Being a young puppy I do require a home with someone around for parts of the day, this will help build my confidence around people, ensure I get lunch and help with general training."

Pop into our cosy rooms in Mahara Place this afternoon at around 1.00pm if you have been going stir-crazy at home, and listen to the group of musicians that has developed into good friends over the years they have been meeting - you'll never know quite what they'll be playing, but sing along anyway !

And don't forget Susie's very valuable Defibrillator Demonstration on Friday 30th at 1030am - don't miss this - we have so many of these machines in Kapiti now and need as many people as possible to know what to do in an emergency -

Have a lovely day today - think of me splashing in mud puddles shortly at Wilf and Jan's Reikorangi Farm Park feeding my lovely friends there - THANK YOU JEREMY FROM MR CHIPPER FOR ALL THE MULCH TO BATTLE THE MUD!! XXX

The weather suppose to bring the best out of us but they say that people are at their most happiest with outside temperatures of 20-21c. Not at 5-10c. Have set the heat pump to 21c.

Ironically I will need to take down the wind spinner before it threatends to spin away. Place extra bricks on the barbecue and outdoor furniture covers.
Damn, won't be getting the wind chimes installed until next week. The wind might blow and whistle a tune anyway.

Councils Lame Excuses An Insult

Not only did they not bother to consult with the community before rushing it through, but the reasons given for the closure (and I use the term "reason" loosely) are seriously flawed. According to KCDC, it is inequitable for Waikanae to have a recycling centre when residents of Paekakariki don't have one and Waikanae residents can drive to Paraparaumu, which does have a recycling centre. One could equally argue that it is inequitable that Waikanae (now) doesn't have a recycling centre when Paraparaumu and Otaki do have one.
Taking this reasoning further, Paekakariki residents should pay for their own seawall. They don't need a beach as there is a perfectly good beach at Paraparaumu that they can drive to. Nor does Paraparaumu need the Te Newhanga Comunity centre when there is a perfectly good, and recently refurbished, hall around the corner they can use. Or perhaps Waikanae residents should refuse to pay their share of the maintenance of the Aquatic Centre, the Paraparaumu Library and Marine Gardens. Actually, they dont need an Aquatic centre either when there is a perfectly good beach at the end of the road.
It may not be the only thing that is at the end of the road for council. One thing we do have in Waikanae is an over-representation at the polling booth (and they cant take that away from us). We get out and vote, and we have much better memories than most people think.

The Media's Conspiracy Of Silence

There is a whole bunch of people pretty angry about the way in which their recycling center has been closed. Will the local papers carry the story? Hell no. Despite being sent press releases following a very successful public meeting and a big response on Neighbourly, along with many letters to Council written by individuals, not a word has been written. So much for balanced reporting. Obviously both the Kapiti news and Kapiti Observer are too afraid to print anything that might criticize the Council. It just underscores what a bunch of bullies they are. Wasn't it the Fascists who shut down the press? Meanwhile, individual senior Councilors have had no problem contacting key members of the group individually and accusing them of various misdemeanors. More bullying in my opinion. It smacks of trying to pick people off.
Fortunately for us, both kcnews.co.nz and waikanaewatch.org gave us comprehensive online coverage of the meeting and resolutions passed.

We did get one veiled reference to our actions in the Mayor's column in Kapiti News this week. In it, the mayor stated we had turned the issue into a political football. Well......lemme tell ya Guru, you were right there at the kick-off and you couldn't wait to kick the recycling center into touch. That and moving the goalposts with a series of dodgy votes made for a pretty intriguing scenario. You cant blame us for wanting to know the real story. We don't appear to have any investigative journalism in the district. And while we are trading cheap shots, its nice to see the Fonterra people out on Kapiti releasing Kokako. Makes a nice change from their earlier behavior polluting rivers with their factory discharge. Or maybe they were just there to buy respectability. Must have been nice for the Mayor too, a nice break on Kapiti island away from the wee pressing problem of a $5 million shortfall in the gateway project. You are, of course, more than welcome to give that the boot.
