Christmas with Grandad

Colleen Hawkes Reporter from Homed

It's that time of year - we all get a little nostalgic for Christmas' past. My grandad wasn't exactly the Grinch Who Stole Christmas, but he sure wanted it over and done with. Would love to hear your reminisces.

Why Two Vacs Not Valid

NZ has hit more than 90% of people over 12 being vaccinated twice - 95% in Wellington, 90% in Hutt Valley. But it is not good enough.

Omicron is aggressively spreading in many countries and children aged 5-11 are being vaccinated in many countries. For NZ, Omicron will hit us hard but hopefully not as hard as in some other countries. The 400,000 children aged 5-11 here will not start a measure of Pfizer
vaccine until January 17 and there will be a lot of resistance.

People aged over 12 in NZ will need a third Pfizer vaccine -AND A FOURTH - probably within a year of having received their first vaccine.

Israel, to whom the Pfizer vaccine became available months before it arrived in NZ, have had over 4 million of its people with a third jab and to date NZ is at around 140,000. But here is the deal - Israel says in the short term, a fourth jab is now needed as well in a bid to outpace the variants of Covid especially the skyrocketing Omicron.

And who knows what else is awakened as a branch out of Covid but the chances of more variants are higher than a cessation.

Name Game For Unborn Cafe

Michael from Trentham

Got to get this off my mind. It's a plea to whoever takes on opening a cafe in the Blue Mountains Campus, Wallaceville 12 months from now.

If indeed a public cafe is installed as expected, it will occupy part of the ground floor of the four storey Buddle House.

So here is the name for it:

Kittens are supposed to sleep for 18 to 20 hours a day....I think Sam needs a new clock as he never sleeps anywhere close to this and seems to spends all day running round at top speed!"

SPCA Pet of the Day: Meet Tatiana

"You might be as shocked and as surprised as I am to know how well Tatiana is doing already. She's out of her box most of the time and is now running to me when I call her for lots of headbutts and head rubs. She's very chatty and is becoming comfortable walking around, exploring the house, and sitting on the windowsills and watching the world already. I chose the right cat, she's quite a character and is actually quite a brave, young lady."

Anyone Else Sick of Vodafone Support?

Yesterday, after a session of 2 hours+, and today of 1 hour on the phone I still had an SC402 Error that no body was able to tell me what it meant.

The guy yesterday was supposed to be pushing out some software that would definitely fix the TV Box over night, but guess what.... it didn't, hence the call to Voda this morning to the number on the screen.

So it started over again "pull the power cable out for 30 seconds", read the serial number, disconnect the internet cable from the modem or router many, many times, pull more power cables, total reset of Router resulting in having to reset the whole WiFi network up again as it had now reset to defaults and all our devices didn't recognize the 'Reset' Network, and this was all after the ordeal of 'what is your account number', 'how much do you pay', 'what is your payment method', 'what is your PIN Number' 'that pin number is wrong'.. "well it was set up on 17 Dec 2019", etc, etc, ad nauseam.

The guy I spent an hour talking to this morning decided to transfer me with out telling me and my phone just went into horrid hold music for 10 minutes. The TV box was now not functional at all with all types of error messages flashing up.
Abruptly the music stopped and someone spoke asking me who I was and what I wanted. I said aren't you the guy who I have been talking to for an hour about my problem?
He muttered something unintelligible to me and rang off !!!

My son and I had a conversation about the unsolved problem and he found instructions on how to do a factory reset on the TV Box while trying to find the SC402 error on Vodafone's site. It sounded a bit like what the guy was trying to get us to do but was not making a good job of explaining how to do it

We thought, sod it, may as well try it.
It took 2 minutes in total and the TV is now working fine.

Why in gods name do you have to spend hours on the phone removing cables, switching stuff off and on, reading serial numbers etc etc reaching no resolution when it is just a quick 2 minute job to get it working again????

Any recommendations for a Vodafone ISP Replacement?
Also VodafoneTV will close on 30 September 2022.

Bit of a rant, sorry bout that.

Upper Hutt has joined the rest of the country and is now requiring vaccine passes for its buildings. A confirmed Covid-19 case in the Hutt Valley has led to the council reversing its controversial decision not to use vaccine passes for most council facilities, including libraries.
“Given this [case] and the high transmission rate of the Delta strain, we have made the decision to change the settings at our public facilities, moving to more restrictive settings,” the council said in a statement.
Mayor Wayne Guppy is urging everybody to wear masks and follow the guidelines on wearing masks.

Front page headlines in Upper Hutt Leader December 15, 2021: Work starts on $100m hub project.
First paragraph includes: work has begun on a new earthquake resistant commercial hub (etc etc).

Love to advise the unnamed writer that work in earnest started nearly three months ago on the Blue Mountains Campus and lots of people can vouch for this as they file past almost every day.

If this is the news of the day, then there is little use for the Leader as a newspaper.

In fact most of the information in this main item of the Dec 15 edition has previously been documented in better format in the Leader which at the time was considerably behind other news media including the DomPost, Stuff and the Willis Bond website.
