Te Maari Papara had arranged to view the one-bedroom house in Porirua and brought along her 1-year-old son, Kash.
“She [the property manager] just stared at me and told me to leave,” the 21-year-old mother said.
“It felt degrading.”The property manager told Papara that the house was only suitable for “professional singles or couples”. But the listing from Oxygen Property Management hadn’t mentioned that requirement – and still didn’t on Wednesday afternoon.
Do you think this is fair?

Hi neighbours,
Thank you to everyone who submitted questions about their sickly plant babies. Houseplants might be fashionable, but they can be tricky to get right. Whether it’s the wrong light, too much or too little water, or a pesky draft, it doesn’t take much for your prize peace lily to turn yellow or an infestation of bugs to set in.

We put some of your houseplant questions to the plant doctors from Kings Plant Barn to diagnose. Find their answers here.

Two students from Porirua’s Bishop Viard College received an Area Commander’s Certificate of Appreciation on Friday, for helping police catch a man suspected of committing a spate of burglaries across Wellington District.
On the day in question, one of our dog handlers was tracking a stolen vehicle in Porirua. The driver crashed the vehicle and ran on to Bishop Viard School grounds, where students Oliver Toru-Tyrell and Rob Head saw what was happening and decided to act.
Fresh from rugby training, the teenagers put skills they learned on the rugby field to good use and tackled the man. Their intervention stalled him long enough for the officer and his police dog to start tracking.
The suspect jumped through a window into an office to escape. After putting up a fight, he was apprehended by the officer with assistance from the two students, who also made sure Public Safety Team staff could access where the officer was holding the suspect.
Police staff were grateful for the warm welcome they received from the school when they attended assembly on Friday to present Oliver and Rob with their certificates. The school students sang as the officers walked into the school hall.
Addressing the assembly on Friday, Inspector Nick Thom said: "The community rightly expect Police to keep them safe - and for Police to achieve this, we also need the public’s help. Oliver and Rob were brave to do so during the incident when they could have stood by and taken no action."
Without their assistance the outcome would have been very different. Their actions assisted in preventing further significant harm in Wellington District and ensured the community is much safer.
Principal Chris Theobald commended the boys for acting in a way which was in line with their school values, and for being a good example to their peers. Both Rob and Oliver are considering a career in Police later down the track.
The man they helped apprehend has been charged with 26 offences, primarily burglaries.

Hi neighbours,

Want to know when it's your turn to get the Covid-19 vaccine?
An online tool (click on Read More) which can help New Zealanders figure out which vaccination group they’re in has been released.
The questionnaire is available on the Unite Against Covid-19 website.
Users answer a short series of questions about their health, location, job, and life situation.
The results tell them which of the four main vaccination groups they’re in, and when they can expect to get their vaccine.
Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said the tool also provided more information about who is in each group.
“So if you’re a healthcare worker or work in a long-term residential environment, for example, it will provide an indication when you can expect to get vaccinated.
“You don’t need to provide any information that could be used to identify you, and the information you do provide isn’t saved once you leave the web page.”
The ministry said it was in the process of being translated into 24 languages, which would start to appear on the website from Monday.
The website page and online tool will be updated as the vaccine roll-out plan scales up.
“As we move through the roll-out of the vaccination programme, we want people to be as informed as soon as possible about when they can expect to be vaccinated.
“This tool is designed to make that as easy as possible,” Bloomfield said.

Thousands of daily train users may have to pay to park their vehicles at stations around the Wellington region.
Regional council chair Daran Ponter said the proposal was in response to increasing demand for park and ride facilities, and the cost of constructing multi-level parking buildings to meet that demand was prohibitive.
The proposal to do away with free park and ride spaces, is in the Greater Wellington Regional Council's draft Regional Public Transport Plan 2021-2031. Submissions close at the end of today (Friday).

"Hi there my name is Maggie, I am a loveable lady looking for my forever home. In my previous home I had someone home with me full time and when left alone for periods at a time I have shown the ability to escape out of medium height fencing. So my new home would need to have high fencing and a plan for during the day if left alone that does not include being tied or tethered. I would love a home that has older children that have grown up around strong dogs and a home that has had experience with dogs. I have had a fair bit of training but there is always room to learn more things so would love a home that could put the time into teaching me. If you think you are the home for me get in touch with the canine team to learn more about me."
