Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced the date on Monday, saying Covid-19 was not going to be eradicated from New Zealand.
“The hard truth is that Delta is here and not going away,” Ardern said.
While Aucklanders will finally see an end to New Zealand’s longest lockdown, those in other parts of the country could face far more restrictions if they have not been fully-vaccinated.

Porirua Mayor Anita Baker said it was fitting that the Services Memorial was unveiled on 11 November, which is Armistice Day.
The memorial was blessed by Ngāti Toa kaumatua Taku Parai, and he and Mayor Baker laid a wreath. The memorial was the result of more than two years’ worth, researching and compiling the list of service personnel buried in the historic cemetery, on Kenepuru Drive.
“As the cemetery doesn’t have a dedicated section for the burial of service personnel, the memorial provides a central location for people to pay their respects,” Mayor Baker said.
There is also new signage identifying where the graves are located in the cemetery, and other information. The project was a collaboration between Council, RSA, Veterans Affairs and local volunteers, including a significant research effort by local historian Allan Dodson.

They do this by singing to them around the bedside, choosing soothing material from a variety of sources. Their singing is a gift, not a performance.
Whakaahura means to warm, or to cherish. It is a voluntary organisation with about 30 members in Wellington, of whom 20 sing regularly. They sing in homes, retirement homes, and hospices, usually in groups of four to six.
It is helpful to the dying, and to families and care staff. Each ‘sing’ is planned around the needs and preferences of the patient. Apparently, hearing is the last sense to close down at the point of death.
The four singers, Sue, Ian, Jiko, and Angela, gave us a selection of their songs as they went along, much appreciated by the club.

We all value our independence, however over time our needs can change. Assisted-living apartments balance an independence lifestyle in a stylish apartment alongside support that makes life easier. Housekeeping, a chef-prepared meal, activities and outings, it’s the perfect balance.
