Call for land to be returned to tangata whenua as airport faces closure

Kāpiti mayor K Gurunathan has joined the chorus of calls to return the airport land to its original Māori owners. He says local tangata whenua were wounded when the crown sold the site into private hands in 1995 without first offering it to Māori.

NZTA backs down after threatening Ōtaki store with legal action

The transport agency will instead be encouraging the owners of the State 1 gift store to change its branding which uses a State Highway shield in its logo. The agency says the storefront which is on a busy retail section of SH1 could be confusing for mortorists.
