Residents and car users should see the new bollards later this week, and the existing bollard further down the Parade will be upgraded to be visible at night.
Hutt City Council traffic engineer Zackary Moodie says, “Local residents have asked to prohibit through traffic between these two streets due to a narrow 3m wide section making it difficult for shared use between pedestrians and traffic.
“The bollards should be installed this week if weather permits. Cyclists and walkers will still be able to access Marine Parade south, residents in the area will still have access to their properties, but there will be no through traffic making it a safer place for pedestrians and cyclists.”

Further testing of this well came back negative but as a further precaution Wellington Water is testing further across the water network and chlorination will continue while this happens.
Because the public bores at Buick Street and Dowse Square can’t be chlorinated, on advice from Regional Public Health they have been closed, again as a precaution during further testing. Read the background on our website www.huttcity.govt.nz...

The good news is that tests today (Thursday 13 April) have come back negative, however Wellington Water will continue to chlorinate the water and test this bore and bores throughout the city, so your water supply will remain chlorinated over the long weekend.
Pending further investigation, and advice from Regional Public Health, Hutt City Council have closed the unchlorinated public water supply bores at Buick Street, and Dowse Square. Until we get approval, both public bores will be closed as a precautionary measure.

For State Highway 2 traffic, the main change you’ll notice is there will be no more traffic signals. If you’re wanting to get onto or off State Highway 58, you’ll use the new elevated roundabout. There will be plenty of signage to guide you, and a lower speed limit in place to allow everyone to get used to the new layout.

As part of routine water testing carried out on water from the Waterloo wellfield (Lower Hutt), a sample from a bore in the wellfield has returned a positive e-coli result.
It is important to note that this test is an indicator test and further testing is required to confirm any contamination. While this further testing is being carried out, chlorine will be added to the water supply for Lower Hutt as a precautionary measure. We’ll continue to chlorinate the water until we have clearance from Regional Public Health.
Other water quality tests taken at the same time have returned negative results.
The water already in pipes is safe to drink and there is no need to boil water.
The public artesian wells at Buick Street in Petone, and Dowse Square in central Lower Hutt remain open as a source of unchlorinated drinking water.
We’ll be carrying out tests on multiple samples at other reservoirs and points in the water network, and provide updates here as soon as those results come in (late tomorrow).
