The Port Nicholson Settlement Trust is looking at a range of options for the former Wainuiomata College and Intermediate site, including building 200 new houses on it.

However a Lower Hutt hapū went public last week with plans to oppose the Trust, with their own plans which included a medical centre and emergency housing.

Spiders are generally a beneficial pest because they prey on other insects, but many people have arachnophobia (a fear of spiders) and want them removed from their home. Spiders are easy to differentiate from other pests because they have eight legs.

Nearly all spiders produce venom, but there are few spiders in New Zealand that can cause harm to humans - these include the White Tail spider, Australian Redback and the native Katipo. Spider bites involving venom usually causes pain prior to inflammation. If there appear to be two puncture wounds at a bite site this may indicate a spider is the culprit; spiders use two fangs to bite and inject their venom. If you've received a spider bite likely from in or around your home, it's best to call us to locate the possible source and eliminate it for you safely.

If you or anyone you know have any pest problems, don't hesitate to give us a call on 0800-99-PEST (0800 997 378), or email us here.
