What can you do in five minutes?

Ann from Relationship Wellbeing Specialist

"Five minutes" is a common response to "How long will this take?" Of course, it's almost never an accurate response. It will usually take longer and, as a colonel shouts to his troops in Black Hawk Down, "Nothing takes five minutes!"

"Five minutes" is a common response to "How long will this take?" Of course, it's almost never an accurate response. It will usually take longer and, as a colonel shouts to his troops in Black Hawk Down, "Nothing takes five minutes!"

Well, that's not true, at least not in relationships. Five minutes is plenty of time for you and your partner to connect on a daily basis, and in a number of ways:

Express physical affection, like kissing, hugging, holding hands, or cuddling
Talk about specific ways in which you appreciate each other Tell your partner one thing you admire about them, and why
Say thanks for the little things you've done that day to support each other
Or, if you're feeling up to it, have a quickie!

Many of us lead busy lives with hectic schedules, but those tiny bits of free time, those five minutes here or there, are great windows of opportunity to connect with your partner, even in small ways.

The free left turn on to the bridge is run into a traffic light system too. We are all going to be held up at lights that don’t need to exist. Take the lights away and put in different lanes to separate out traffic as we have now. Make it safer and make it flow.
I think of it as another Hutt Road snarl up. When you look at Kapiti Rd Paraparamumu it now has traffic lights everywhere to slow you down. That express way is to blame for they have all appeared after that was built.

The same cannot be said of Lower Hutt and in other parts of the Wellington region and most elsewhere in NZ.

I am very happy for some of the rates I pay to go towards providing soap at public toilets in Upper Hutt.

I don't believe that vandalism will be any higher for soap dispensers than they are for toilet tissues and tissue dispensers and water taps.

It is a well publicised fact that water - especially cold water - does not remove all the germs when washing ones hands so soap of certain quality standards needs to be applied first. So in regard to this the UH City Council is acting disgracefully.

With cooler weather embracing the country, you may find you’re not getting out and about as much. So now is the ideal time to make sure your home is as fall-proof as possible.

The home safety checklist will give you practical tips on how to make your home safe. It covers how to avoid slips and falls in the home’s most used areas. For example, paths can get icy in winter, applying salt or sand to your path can help avoid any icy slips.

Having a fall can be upsetting. Those over 65 have a one in three chance of having a fall, while those over 80 it’s one in two.

The good news is falls are preventable. A new movement called Live Stronger for Longer is helping to reduce the risk of falls by providing practical information and free resources. We want to help you stay on your feet, and living the life you want to live.

Take the home safety checklist with your friends and family and join the movement today.

Proudly brought to you by ACC, HQ&SC, MOH and your local community health providers.

Work is beginning today on installing a community water station at Berhampore Nursery, Wellington.

Right now we’re constructing several of the 22 water stations around the region.

Our teams got together with Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO) and the four city councils last week to develop operational plans for distributing water from these sites.

A visit to our pilot site at Korokoro was a great opportunity to view equipment, and gave councils more insight on how the emergency water supply will work.

For more information about where the water stations will be and how they will operate check out wellingtonwater.co.nz...

Remember, the water stations will only operate from day 8 following an earthquake.

For the first 7 days you will be relying on your own stored water at home. You need 20 litres of stored water for every person, every day – for at least 7 days.
