With busy work schedules, family and friends to see, and maybe even kids to raise, it can be hard to find time to connect with your partner.

Well, there's gotta be away. But how?

One of our most important pieces of advice for couples is to create Rituals of Connection, which are predetermined activities that you and your partner choose to do together:

Go for a short walk every morning, or have breakfast together.
Have a stress-reducing conversation in the evening.
Make a monthly date night at your favourite restaurant.
Or even spend five minutes before bed saying thanks for things you've done to support each other.

It doesn't really matter what you choose to do, as long as both you and your partner enjoy it, agree to it, do it regularly and consistently, and find that it brings you closer together.

Create as many rituals as you'd like, both big and small. Once those rituals are built into your lives, then you'll have created reliable ways for you and your partner to connect.

You're invited to the opening of a double exhibition, this Saturday afternoon, 5th May,

The two exhibitions are :- The Art of Sarah Albisser & Paul Gadsby - Political Bird Paintings

You're welcome to join us anytime between 2 and 5pm to celebrate the opening of this new exhibition and meet the wonderful artists. Coffee/tea and other refreshments provided and enjoy the ambience of accomplished jazz pianist Bill Wollerman and friends.

'Apocalypse Now' Oil on Board by Paul Gadsby from his political bird series. This painting raises the issue of whether there should be a ban of aerial use of 1080 poison to prevent more kea deaths. Given the birds relatively high extinction risk, the use of 1080 poison is likely to accelerate the demise of the kea before the end of this century. The current number of kea is less than 1,000.

Council has successfully prosecuted a Lower Hutt company for failing to strengthen a residential building it owns in Petone.

Council has attempted to have the owner strengthen the building for a number of years. The 2016 Kaikoura quake and the growing scientific work around quake-prone buildings, and a lack of action on the owners part, prompted Council to take court action as a last resort.

Through our research, we've determined that how a couple views their relationship's history, what we call "The Story of Us," is a big factor in how successful and happy they might be going forward.

When discussing The Story of Us, we found that couples either “glorify the struggle” by being proud of the good times in their relationship and by making light of the bad, or they focus on their disagreements and look back on them with resentment.

In fact, when couples view their relationship's history in a negative light, it is one of our largest predictors of divorce.

So, are you proud of your marriage?

If you and your partner are able to glorify the struggle, then you're more likely to highlight the good times and have a happy relationship going forward.
