We're looking into ways we can all keep these costs down for a story on Homed and would love to hear from you if you have particularly large or small bills.
Do your power bills come in way higher than your friends and family? Do you know why, or does the amount always take you by surprise? Maybe, like the family who created an effective solar panel heater out of drink cans, or the blogger who enjoys free power generated by a converted washing machine, you've found a creative way to minimise your bills. If so, how do you do it?
Whether your bills are high and you're looking for ways to reduce them, or you have some secrets to low power bills that you're willing to share, we'd love to hear from you. Leave a message in the comments, or email homed@stuff.co.nz.

We have the latest offerings in everything you could imagine, and a huge space! Recently, a large selection of new mattresses arrived at the Brighton Mall showroom. If you thought getting a new, super snugly warm mattress was going to cost the earth, think again! Our single inner-sprung mattresses start at $99.
Surrounding them are a variety of the latest Steiner chairs, heavy wooden drawers, industrial and rustic tables and minimalist items in the Scandinavian style. Subtle hues and bursts of colour reflect global trends and boutique tastes.
“Our whole philosophy is to keep overheads down so people can get the same items that are in a higher-end store, but cheaper.”
Come in and enjoy... you’ll be so glad you did.

The move comes after much public debate on the appropriateness of firearms being brought into schools, including when soldiers taught children as young as nine how to assemble and shoot assault rifles at a leadership exercise in Palmerston North last year. However students can still use firearms as part of shooting clubs and competitions. Click here to read the full article and guidelines.

The Best Furniture Shop owner Kim Booth grew up in a family of furniture retailers and decided to turn a traditional sales strategy on its head with the launch of the New Brighton store nine years ago. Instead of a plush showroom taking up high-demand real estate space, The Best Furniture Shop has a huge, simple fit-out in a low-rent part of town.
Savings from low-overheads would go straight to customers, with rock-bottom prices every day. Check it out on our website, or instore at 61 Hawke Street, New Brighton.
