A Dunedin teen who got fake nails for a school ball has been told she is not allowed back to school until they have been removed.
Her mother, who spoke to Stuff on the condition of anonymity, said she'd spent hundreds of dollars for her daughter to attend the King's High School formal.

Her mother, who spoke to Stuff on the condition of anonymity, said she'd spent hundreds of dollars for her daughter to attend the King's High School formal.
However, Judith Forbes, principal of Bayfield High School, which the girl is a student at, said they had clear rules over nails and nail polish.
Nails painted a natural colour, or a French manicure, "wouldn't be an issue", but long nails were "just dangerous", she said.

New Zealand has one of the simplest pension schemes in the world - all you have to do is be old enough and have lived in the country long enough and you can get it.
But that also makes it expensive - about $14.5 billion this year. Jobseeker benefits, by comparison, cost just $1.7b and sole parent support $1.08b.
