THOMPSON, Barbara Ruth (Barb)(née Saunders)
Died on Sunday, May 28, 2023, aged 77, peacefully at home in Wanaka. Dearly loved and best friend of Graeme for nearly 54 years. Devoted mother and mother-in-law of Michael and JoJo (Auckland), and Lucy and Kate (Arrowtown). Cherished and much loved Granny Babs to six grandchildren Jasper, Kaija, Luca, Josie, Harvey and Janey. Loved sister and sister-in-law of Bill (dec) and Catherine Saunders, Jan and John Gilbert, David and Christine Saunders, and Geoff and Maree Saunders, and all the nieces and nephews. A great friend to many. Special thanks to the incredible carers from “second family” Penny’s Home Care who went well beyond the call of duty. Thanks also to the team at Otago Hospice and Dr Fiona McLean. A Funeral Service and celebration of Barb’s life will be held in St Columba’s Anglican Church, 167 Upton Street, Wanaka, on Saturday, June 3 at 2.00pm, followed by a private cremation. Formerly of Lee Stream, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Dunedin Public Hospital; aged 83 years. Dearly loved husband and best friend of Louise. Loved and respected father and father-in-law of Sharon and Stewart Mahon (Queenstown), Denise Deans and Michelle Leus (Dunedin). Much loved Grandad of Hayley and Leanne. Thanks to the doctors and staff of ward 7c who took part in Doug’s care. A service for Doug will be held in Campbell and Sons Chapel, 95 Gordon Road, Mosgiel, at 1.00pm, on Thursday, June 1, followed by a private burial. It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the passing of our dear wife, mother, daughter, and sister, Maria Hema. It is an immeasurable loss that has left our whnau shattered and in deep pain. Maria embraced life with an incredible zest, radiating happiness and putting her best into everything she did. She dedicated her life to her husband Stace and their children Te Ao Marama and Tawera. She is the mokopuna of Nana Mary and Koro Kupuora Jury Turia, Grandma Grace and Grandpa Stan Crump, the beloved eldest child of Richard and Kororia Crump, darling sister to Te Marino and Eru, Paora and Roni, Ata and Kimi, Aunty Maria to 11+ nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law to Glenn Hema Inwood, daughter-in-law to Denise and Barry, and Tony. She is Whaea Maria to her tauira, and niece, cousin, friend and colleague to many. Maria will be lying in state at Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Whanau Tahi, 83 Lyttelton Street, Spreydon, from 11.00am on Thursday, June 1. The service will be held at kura on Friday, June 2 at 10.00am, she will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Urupa. Thank you for your love, compassion, and understanding during this profoundly difficult time.
