Toxic algae grows on the bottom of riverbeds and appears as thick dark brown or black mats that have a slimy or velvety texture and musty smell.
These mats can come loose and wash up on the edge of the rivers, or form βfloating raftsβ in shallow areas. As they dry out, they turn light brown or white and look like dried leaves or cowpats.
If you are in any doubt, keep your whΔnau and animals away from the river.

I have seen them out and about but not sure how to find out where to join them - would anyone know of any social biking groups for seniors in and around the Bishopdale and surrounding areas? I can go by myself for a ride, but it would be nice to go along with a group of people.
