According to findings, the more you drink before bed, the more pronounced these effects. REM sleep happens about 90 minutes after we fall asleep. It's the stage of sleep when people dream, and it's thought to be restorative. Disruptions in REM sleep may cause daytime drowsiness, poor concentration, and rob you of needed ZZZs.
Alcohol may seem to be helping you to sleep, as it helps induce sleep, but overall it is more disruptive to sleep, particularly in the second half of the night if taken repeatedly.
Alcohol also suppresses breathing and can cause sleep apnea," or breathing pauses that occur throughout the night.
Studies prove that using alcohol as a sleeping aid can result in insomnia in the long run. However a drink or two here and there taken in a moderate quantity is of no harm.

That’s the ongoing challenge facing the Waikato Catchment Ecological Enhancement Trust – the WCEET, and why they have partnered in a new public donation initiative with Momentum Waikato.
“Without any promotion, our funding rounds are always over-subscribed,” says WCEET Chair Gwyn Verkerk.
“So we’ve set up the WCEET Fund with Momentum Waikato, as both a new investment income stream in its own right, and to provide an easy way for the public to donate towards the expansion and long-term sustainability of this crucial local conservation funding.”

A gift in your Will - a 'Bequest' - to Momentum Waikato is the most effective way you can help 'Create a better Waikato for everyone forever'.
We know the content of a Will is a very personal thing and that your first priority is always to provide for the people you care about. Our offer is something to consider once you're satisfied you've sorted out everything else.
By notifying us of your intent, we can express our gratitude and discuss appropriate recognition.
Bequests to Momentum can be tagged so its resulting and ongoing investment income can go to a specific purpose or charity of your choice, or untagged so we can use it to invest in our transformational projects.
The more we know about your wishes, the better we are able to honour your intentions in full.
Making a bequest is straightforward. If you are interested in having a confidential, obligation-free conversation please contact Janice Lapwood on 022 151 2854 or janice@momentumwaikato.nz.
