I am writing about a missing cat who belongs to a friend who lives at Grace Joel Retirement Village. The cat is called Ellie and she is silvery/ grey in colour. She may be limping as she has a sore right paw. Ellie went missing last Thursday, 15 January. She is not wearing a collar but is microchipped. Her owner is desperately missing her and her return would be just wonderful. Flyers have been distributed . Anyone thinking they may have seen Ellie can either message or phone me on : 021-817-246. January works focus on chip sealing southbound lanes, then northbound, with pavement upgrades near Battle Hill, Rainbow Bridge, and Waitangirua. Road users should observe posted speed limits to ensure safety and prevent vehicle damage from loose chips. Maintenance is expected to continue until mid-February, weather permitting—check schedules and plan for extra travel time.

A drain camera inspection, however, identified underlying damage linked to past earthquake movement. Ageing ceramic pipes had shifted and cracked over time, creating a potential issue that had not yet surfaced.
An existing EQC (now Natural Hazards Commission) claim was still in place. We supported the owner throughout the process, gained approval, and completed the repairs without incurring additional costs.
The drainage system has now been restored and the property made secure.
Not all earthquake-related damage is immediately visible. Regular drain inspections can help identify hidden issues early.
