This is so important to know and I wish it was taught at school and over and over again in ongoing education.
Say what you mean not what you don’t mean. I know that was a bit confusing ... an example:
You are at the playground with your child or grandchild. The child is up on the monkey bars. (What I hear oh so often is) "Don’t fall! Be careful that you don’t slip". Unfortunately those well meaning phrases most likely won’t help. Worse, they suggest to the brain the very thing you don’t want to happen.
When I ask you to not think about a pink bear, what do you automatically think about? .... exactly!
Say what you want to have happen not what you don’t want to happen.
In the example to your child at the monkey bars rather say: Hold on tight and swing in rhythm or watch what you are doing.
Language is all around us and it shapes our reality. It’s the next step from a thought... it’s creation. Please notice how you say things. Even to yourself! Remember the brain does not hear a "n"o or "don’t". It hears what is said and that’s a suggestion. Faster than one can think about not to think about that suggestion it’s already there.
So, don't think about this post...NOW. :-)))
.
With kindness and smiles

De-tours are thirsty work and so they will conclude with a Devonshire tea at our 1929 cafe.
