Canterbury has been named the fifth most welcoming region in the world in the Booking.com Traveller Review Awards, while Oamaru, Hokitika and Invercargill have been named the most welcoming towns in NZ. They were followed by Cambridge, Picton, Lake Tekapo, Kerikeri, Palmerston North, Paihia and Twizel.
We'd be really keen to hear your thoughts on this based on your own travels around New Zealand. Do you think Canterbury is NZ's most welcoming region? And are these our most welcoming towns?
Where in NZ have you been made to feel particularly welcome on your travels?
As usual, please put 'NFP' in your comment if you don't want it to be included in an article. Cheers.

One of my friends know a worker who works on Auckland wharf for a crane company . He said during these days a lot of ships come to Auckland wharf. So his boss wanted to bring more workers. But because their workers do not belong to the wharf union, the wharf union refused the extra workers to help. His boss wanted to unload the ship faster, but the wharf union always refused all the solution. His boss complained, "Why Auckland wharf union are so narrow-minded."
A few days later, their company's machinery was badly damaged and had to close down their 6 cranes. Only 3 cranes left which belong to the council port company, unloading all the ships. Then most ships couldn't wait left for Tauranga and a few to Whangarei. That's why Kmart, Bunnings warehouse, Place maker and many other supermarkets' shelves are empty.
I simply want the Aucklanders to know the truth.
I heard by June that crane company which suffered from the severe damage will not sign the new contract with Auckland council and leave Auckland wharf with a lack of cranes and workers.
I feel there was a mysterious mighty power behind all this and hope Aucklanders have their own view about their port.

Across the street there goes a Flowering big pohutukawa, 2 houses appart there was a beautiful pine tree in a corner and he spent 5 months cutting the poor creature piece by piece like torture for NO REASON. Another one beside me just killed the only tree in his backyard!
they weren't near their house, weren't blocking their view, weren't breaking pavement, there wasn't any logic reason to cut them.
These one in the photos just bough that old house 4 months ago, renovated it and just for the thrill of it they decided to destroy a whole thick beautiful bush in the back.
There was a HUGE tree in the middle surrounded by other smaller trees! It looked like a forest! They're not going to build anything on that place! The land is steep and has a volcanic soil full of big rocks. It was a nightmare scene to watch from my windows as all the tress fell. I used to have fresh and cool air coming in to my kitchen in these hot summer days, at least 5 or 6 different bird species living there, i could see they feeding their chicks, building their nests. I had shade from the afternoon sun. Now all the birds are gone and it's getting so much hotter and dry!
Now there's absolutely nothing left just a single small tree that is close to our fence right in front of our kitchen
( i imagine they tough they were doing us a favor to keep that one standing!)
Just want to register my complet frustration with this type of mindset that only sees trees as trouble.
This is absolutely the Worse season possible to be thinking about cutting trees! How dumb you have to be!

I realised he had gotten himself caught in a glue trap for bugs or vermin, and spent about two hours removing the glue from his skin and fur with pet shampoo, coconut oil, and scissors.
He has ended up with several bald patches on his tummy and arms, and a wound where he had scratched himself trying to remove it.
I do understand that having vermin and insects in our gardens and backyards is quite unpleasant, but please keep in mind our pets, for whom these traps are very dangerous!
If possible, please consider using eco-friendly insecticides or humane traps instead. Thank you so much!

Hi Neighbours, Auckland is this year getting serious about reducing carbon emissions. Transport is the city's biggest single emitter. So how does it make sense to hike public transport fares? Read the story below:
