Representation Review Hearing

John Gillon from John Gillon - Kaipatiki Local Board

Yesterday the Kaipātiki Local Board (John Gillon & Danielle Grant) and Devonport-Takapuna Local Board (George Wood & Gavin Busch) presented appeals to the Local Government Commission on Auckland Council's proposed changes to councillor ward boundaries.
Our concern is that because the Albany Ward is growing in population much faster than the North Shore ward, the two Albany councillors are each representing 20,000 more people than the North Shore councillors, which breaches the "fair representation" rule. Auckland Council are proposing to ignore this matter.

To resolve this issue, the boundary between the two wards would need to be adjusted northwards. The Kaipātiki Local Board argued that the boundary should be moved from Sunset Road to Upper Harbour Highway/Constellation Drive, which would transfer Unsworth Heights from Albany ward to North Shore ward. Similarly, the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board argued that the boundary should be moved north to transfer Campbells Bay and Mairangi Bay from Albany ward to North Shore ward.

The Local Government Commission will be conducting a site visit tomorrow before making a decision on this and other matters.

A big step forward on sorting Onewa Road!

This will enable the full utilisation of the outside lanes to help move the buses and general traffic. Thankyou to the Auckland Transport staff who have been working hard to progress this on our behalf. This has been a high priority for the Kaipātiki Local Board and the Shore Action team.

➡️ Stay tuned for the consultation beginning 10 March. Depending on the outcome of the consultation, work to make these changes could be under way from June!

The main changes in the proposal are:
* Vehciles will no longer be able to park on Onewa Road 24/7.
* Both T3 lanes will remain, with no changes.
* The clearway will become redundant as no parking will be allowed at all.
* The path on the northern side of the road will become a shared path (like on the southern side).
* The P15 carparks on Seaview Ave will be moved from the western side to the eastern side to make it easier for customers of the nearby businesses to park after turning from Onewa Rd.
* The small clearway on Nutsey Ave that has been causing issues will be replaced with yellow lines.
* Signal optimisation will be investigated for the Onewa Rd/Lake Rd/Queen St intersection.
* There will be a trial of removing the bus stop opposite Northcote College, as it has been causing issues with some students running across the road (there is a safer bus stop close to the nearby crossing).
* There will be pedestrian detection system upgrades at the two mid-block pedestrian crossings outside St Mary's School and near Northcote College.
* A ramp to exit the existing shared path will be installed at the top of Onewa Road before the raised path at the corner.
* "Keep Clear" road markings will be painted on Birkenhead Ave at the intersection with Hammond Place.

Meanwhile, a project is underway to change the Birkenhead Ave/Onewa Rd intersection to allow the Birkenhead Ave T3 to continue around the corner and connect to the Onewa Rd T3. This project is as-yet unfunded, but is projected to be completed in 2 years time.

Bonsai pots

LuAnne from Beach Haven

I am looking for bonsai pots, even if not in the best-looking condition. The new ones are all the same and I want the old look which will probably be hidden in the recesses of the garden shed or garage. Thanks for any help. Cheers

Own your Online website is part of the New Zealand government's work to raise understanding of cyber security issues for individuals and businesses, they have shared a message about a new scam that is targeting Kiwis.

Own Your Online say:
We are seeing a significant increase in reporting of ‘Hi Mum’ scams.
A ‘Hi Mum’ scam is a scam where a random message from an unknown number is sent to you claiming to be from a close relative, usually your son or daughter.
The fake relative often claims their phone is broken – which is why they’re contacting you from a different number – and will ask you to do something, sometimes asking you to help them with a payment or to do something by clicking a link.

If you receive one of these, don’t click the links. Try to contact your relative using their normal number which is probably still working.
You can also report these scam messages by forwarding free to Department of Internal Affairs on 7726

Check out Own Your Online scam checklist here.
