You're invited to a public meeting on "Verran Mews", which is a fast-tracked proposal for 110 swellings at 19a-25 Verran Rd and 19 West Glade Cres.

📅 When: 7pm Thursday 14 March (next week)
📍 Where: Verran School hall, Verran Road

This will be an opportunity to hear an update from Melanie Kenrick, myself and neighbours on the proposal, and to share your views with the community.

The proposed development is for 110 dwellings, community facilities and new private roads, even though about half of the land is zoned as Single House Zone.
The application is being processed under the COVID-19 Fast Track legislation, which means that a decision on it will be made by a panel of experts without public submissions or a hearing. However the Kaipātiki Local Board is able to provide written comments on behalf of the community.

Read the Verran Mews documents here, including traffic and environmental assessments:

Coalition Government Delays Interest Deductability Phase-In

This means that affected taxpayers will now be able to claim 80% of their interest expenses from April 2024, with the deduction set to return to 100% from April 2025.
This decision backtracks on the coalition agreement, which initially proposed 60% deductibility from April 2023.
Associate Finance Minister David Seymour stated, “Landlords have been hit hard by rising mortgage interest rates and increasing interest deductibility limitations, especially during these times of economic strain. These costs often get transferred to tenants, contributing to the soaring rental prices in New Zealand.”

In light of this policy shift, should we be wondering if the Brightline changes will be "amended"?
It is worth noting that changes to banks' servicing tests are expected, which could have a significant impact on property investment financing.

Peter is helping us out with something that nearly everyone can relate to – dealing with the unsorted photos taking up space on your phone or languishing in boxes in your home.

“Without fail, when I give a talk about getting organised, I’m always asked how to deal with photos,” says Peter.

Boxes of unsorted photos can feel overwhelming to organise so they often get left for many years to clutter up our houses. In addition to this, most of us have smartphones that make it easy to take photos anywhere, so pretty soon our digital photo life becomes cluttered too.

Susan Williams from Frankleigh Park in New Plymouth has nominated Kathryn Shaw as a Nice Neighbour. She says:
'Kathryn and her partner Chris spent all Waitangi day replacing and repairing our dividing fence, they did such an amazing job. Chris also brought me a load of firewood when I ran out in winter for which I was so grateful. If I ever need a hand with any heavy work or lifting, I know I only have to ask and they are there. There have been so many instances over the years where Kathryn's help has been given, too many to name. I wouldn't swap my neighbours for anyone else this is why I am still here after 20 years.'

Know a deserving local? Nominate them for a Nice Neighbour award here.
