Sometimes its hard to confront people who are causing a nuisance with fireworks, especially if you are not really sure if the law supports you. So, to make it crystal clear - these are the Auckland Council Bylaws straight from their website.
Where you cannot light fireworks
You CANNOT light fireworks on council-controlled land, such as:
beaches
parks and reserves.
You are ALSO prohibited from lighting fireworks in:
forests
conservation areas
road surfaces, berm or footpath on your street.
So, there you have it guys. If you have had enough of people letting off fireworks in your street, or the playing fields, or the reserve where you live, or in ANY public park, the law is on your side if you make a complaint or ask those involved to cease.

“I’ll only eat dinner 2-3 times a week so that the children have enough food. This is very stressful… a lot of crying and minimal sleep.”
Food insecurity is the everyday reality for 98.8% of the families Variety helps.
Please donate today to provide grocery support for families like Melody’s this Christmas.

Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) announced on Wednesday that the 10th anniversary celebration of Christmas Lights will not go ahead this year.
MOTAT spokeswoman Sally Manuireva said the decision to cancel the event was a difficult one, as it is the museum’s largest event of the year.
The Auckland event was attended by over 60,000 visitors over 12 nights last year.
“While I know this may be disappointing news for many families who were looking forward to this event, keeping our visitors safe is our top priority,” Manuireva said.
“We’ve decided to make this call now to give our suppliers transparency and allow our team to focus on our summer programming.”
This marks the first occasion where MOTAT’s Christmas Lights has been canned.
MOTAT will still light up its heritage Pumphouse building and erect a 20ft Christmas tree which will be visible from Great North Road.
The Museum will release ‘12 Days of Christmas’, which consists of free online crafts and activities which can be accessed on the online education platform MOTAT.FUN.

West Auckland man Harrison Sanders, 23, said he wanted to experience a struggle, and encourage others to make a change with him.
“There are tens upon thousands of kiwis children that are going without food and the basic essentials to get by over this time of joy,” he said.
“So this year, I wanted to help out those who are in need over this time of joy.”
The primary school teacher will complete the runs from December 13 to 19, starting from Hobsonville School and running around west Auckland.
“The route will be the same every day, and I would love people to join in for parts of it whether it be running, biking, scootering, or even driving alongside,” Sanders said.
He has partnered with Pak n Save Westgate, Breaker and Tuatara Baseball, and every $100 raised will supply a child with a $75 Pak n Save voucher, $25 towards school stationary and a free sports ball.
Sanders previously ran 45km a week in the space of a year to raise money for mental health, alzheimers and epilepsy charities.
“Nothing prepares you for this amount though. So I look forward to the mental game I will be faced with,” he said.
“The route will be the same every day, and I would love people to join in for parts of it whether it be running, biking, scootering, or even driving alongside.”
He has set up a Givealittle to receive donations.

Glenda Fryer was sworn in at the board’s November business meeting and will take on portfolio and liaison responsibilities to be decided at next month’s Waitematā Local Board business meeting.
Waitematā Local Board Chair Richard Northey says the board are pleased with the appointment of Ms. Fryer who brings with her over 30-years of governance experience, including six years of service as the Deputy Chair of Albert-Eden Local Board.
“We now have a full complement of board members to represent the wonderful and diverse range of people across Waitematā until next year’s Local Government elections,” he said.
A resident of St Mary’s Bay, Ms. Fryer says she’s ready to hit the ground running, working with the diverse communities of Waitematā to carry out the board’s plan for the area.
“Leadership is needed now more than ever as we face a global pandemic and a climate change emergency,” she said.
