Gerrard, currently Jacinda Ardern’s chief science advisor, has been named a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Year Honours.
While she hasn’t really processed what it means on a personal level, it hasn’t stopped the Freemans Bay resident from sharing the news with her 75-year-old mum in the United Kingdom, who got a kick out of getting the good news on her birthday.

Grey Lynn resident Shaun Hendy used his expertise in the science of complex systems to map out how the virus could spread across the country under various scenarios.
His models revealed the severity of the threat and influenced the government’s decision to “go hard and go early” in its response.
“It has been a very difficult year, but in the end it has been very satisfying to have played a role in helping New Zealand get through this pandemic."

Following a dry 2019, the region saw a record 40 days with no rain in January and February, paving the way for water restrictions that would continue into December.
Despite the restrictions and Aucklanders being the most efficient water users in New Zealand, the dam levels are still low and Watercare is asking everyone to try and save 20 litres per day.
We’ve put together a list of easy ways you can save water around your home, as well as a few ideas for if you’re willing to go the extra mile.
