home care for common health disorders

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

This is an informative article highlighting the importance of regular breast care and checkup for exploring any noticeable changes that may require medical attention & investigation to detect any unexpected & unfortunate growth of cancer, at an early stage before it gets too late to treat.

Breast Size & shape

Primarily women consider Breast Size & shape as a symbol of beauty, self-esteem, self-confidence, breastfeeding, sexual attraction, and arousal. Many women feel conscious and concerned about size and shape giving rise to certain misconceptions but the fact remains that there is no possible impact on their ability of womanhood nor may have any connection with origin of breast cancer.

While the exact cause of breast cancer may not be known but other than size & shape there appear to be some probable risk factors that need special attention, as well as care, are:- Family history,. however hormonal changes, environmental factors, obesity or overweight, excess alcohol intake, age factor, early or late Menopause, chronicle health disorders, etc.

Hence it is pertinent to take proper care of breast health which may be helpful to a large extent in preventing and reducing the chances of cancer.

Breast tissue;

Normally cancer can likely develop & originate from breast tissue & women need to pay special attention to any unusual signs like a lump in the breast, a change in its shape, dimpling of the skin, fluid coming from the nipple, a newly inverted nipple, or a red or scaly patch of skin on the breast and in which case one must seek immediate medical attention.

lack of care and awareness

Due to lack of care and awareness, it has been experienced that BREAST CANCER HAS often remained undetected in a large number of cases till it reaches the serious or even the last stage when treatment may not be effective.

IMPORTANCE OF SELF EXAMINATION

Hence IMPORTANCE OF SELF EXAMINATION & AWARENESS CAN NOT BE OVERLOOKED. The best way is to have regular SELF EXAMINATION and GENTLE BREAST MASSAGE to observe any noticeable changes requiring medical attention. Massage combined with self-examination can help to detect any lumps or abnormalities early in their development enabling immediate medical attention and timely treatment.

REGULAR GENTLE BREAST MASSAGE

This can also provide multiple health benefits such as; alleviating muscle tension, activating energy, refreshing the breast skin; improving the inner circulatory system, flushing the lymph system increasing lactation, boosting immunity, unblocks energy channels, reducing the risk of breast cancer, and allows to feel more & deep connection with the body.

AYURVEDA APPROACH

It relies mostly on Breast massage as an effective preventive measure that allows movement of stagnant energy from vulnerable areas boosting the immune system and also helps to FLUSH the LYMPH SYSTEM that mainly depends on movement, stretching, and light activity as it does not have any pumping support like the heart.

SELF MASSAGING

Generally, it is easy as there is no right or wrong method and Some of the following suggested steps for breast massage may be helpful;

 Apply only gentle pressure, light touch, circular motions, and smooth strokes.

May use any basic heated oil like sesame or sunflower or others.

Cup your breast with your hand from underneath & massage gently from the outer breast area towards the nipple.

Now from the nipples Continue circular motion/ slow clockwise circle, moving towards the outside area of the breasts and from there onwards to the armpits and breastbone.

The movement of hands upward toward the collarbone, shoulder joint, and neck can also help to detoxify the lymph nodes and unclog any channels.

Preventive measures & Homecare;

Some of the following Home care preventing steps involve healthy & nutritious food habits and physical activities that can be helpful for complimenting & supplementing any ongoing medical treatment;

probiotic foods, sprouted ancient grains, fresh vegetable & fruit raw juices, carrots, apples, immune-boosting foods,

Herbs & kitchen spices, Mushrooms, Astragalus, Dandelion Root, Ginseng, Hops, Licorice, ashwagandha, bhringraja, bitter melon, Basil, garlic. Ginger & turmeric.

Mindful Meditation, stress-reducing activities, Deep Breathing (alternate- abdominal-chest/breast breathing).

Easy Yoga poses like standing forward bend; seated forward bend; cobra; bridge; triangle; cat; cow; table; sun salutation.

Regular exposure to sun/sunbath for having natural vitamin D

Avoid alcohol and if must then only drink in limit & moderation strictly as per medical advice.

CAUTION:

It’s absolutely necessary to massage breasts very carefully, softly, lightly & gently without applying much pressure and force.

DISCLAIMER;

This is informative, educational & not a substitute for any professional advice or medical treatment. Massage can be harmful to persons having any health issues, complicated symptoms, or medical conditions and it is advisable to consult with a physician or other healthcare professional before starting any home care remedies.

Kia ora neighbours, a tenant in New Lynn says she has been left in a “nightmare” after her landlords left a renovation job unfinished and refused to pay her thousands of dollars that was awarded by the Tenancy Tribunal.

Anna Boivin has been living in a rental for 12 years with her son and daughter. In 2011, Boivin got new landlords, Mingjun Chen and Min Cao, who she said would “randomly appear” in her house for inspections.

The rental itself was in need of repairs, Boivin said, as it was an older home – but whenever she mentioned issues to Chen and Cao, nothing would get fixed.

I work with ACC clients who are returning to work after an injury.

ACC fully funds a "Work Trial" programme for these candidates.

What is a work trial?
A work trial is a short period of work experience completed as part of a client’s vocational rehabilitation programme.
A wide range of employers, large and small, offer work trials.

The goal of a work trial is to:

• give the client an opportunity to try out different job options and apply their work skills and abilities

• help the client re-establish work routines

• give the client an opportunity to develop new skills.

How will a work trial help employers?

There are several benefits you can get from participating in a work trial.

• It helps you assess how suitable a potential employee is for the job before you offer employment

• It helps to build a positive perception of your industry

• It signals to your staff and customers that you employ people on merit

• We can assist with your employee’s on-the-job training so they can start work sooner

• We can assist you with selecting suitable types of jobs a client can safely do in your workplace

• Recent research indicates that staff with disabilities take less sick leave and are often more productive than able-bodied employees.

Will I have to pay anything?

No. We’ll continue to pay the client weekly compensation so you won’t need to pay them any wages during the work trial.

Who decides what kind of jobs are suitable for a work trial?

We use professional occupational and medical assessors to help identify the types of jobs a client can do as a work trial. Jobs are chosen to suit the client’s current abilities and which they can safely do in your workplace to ensure the health and safety of themselves and others.

Will I get the opportunity to interview prospective candidates first?

Yes. To ensure the success of the work trial, it’s important that you’re involved in the selection process and are happy with the result.

Will I have to write a report?

The rehabilitation provider may ask you to provide written confirmation of:

• the client’s attendance record

• how well they did

• what their attitude was like.

What will my responsibilities be?

You will need to provide supervision and training to the client participating in the work trial.

Your obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 remain the same whether the client is an employee or is in a place of work for the purpose of receiving on the job training or gaining work experience.

What are ACC’s responsibilities?

We’ll contract the services of a vocational rehabilitation supplier to liaise between you and the client undertaking the work trial.

A vocational rehabilitation professional will also visit your workplace to ensure the client is able to do their work duties safely.

What are the responsibilities of the rehabilitation provider?

The rehabilitation provider is responsible for matching suitable people to the work trial, monitoring the work trial and providing support where needed.

Will this affect my ACC levy charge?

No. Levies are set according to the cost of injuries in your industry group and the total payroll for your industry. If an ACC client suffers an injury or re-aggravation during the trial and is not on the payroll, your levy payment is not affected.

Who do I talk to if there are any problems?

The rehabilitation provider will liaise between you and the client undertaking the work trial to ensure everything runs smoothly. If there are any problems, you can raise these with the rehabilitation provider and they will discuss them with us to determine what action to take next.

Please email stephen.taylor@activeplus.co.nz if your business is able to host a fully funded Work Trial, at no cost to your business.
