NZ-US Mapping in Antarctica

Rhondda Sweetman from Plimmerton Rotary

President Donna introduced Graeme Blick who talked about 40 years of mapping in partnership between the USA and NZ in Antarctica (making good use of his blue balloon to demonstrate various aspects of the potentially catastrophic results of global warming). In 2002 Graeme was awarded the American Polar Medal for services to mapping in Antarctica and Mount Blick has been named after him. Graeme's knowledge of the area is extensive and we could have listened for hours - and wished there would have been enough time for questions, but that's for another day.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
