With so much going on this time of year it’s easy to get caught up in the festivities and forget about others, especially those having a difficult time.
Whether it’s an elderly neighbour who lives alone to a family on your street working hard to make ends meet, reach out to someone who could use a little extra joy in their life and remind them what the holiday spirit is all about!
Other ideas include fundraising for a local charity, doing a food or toy drive, organising a ‘Secret Santa’ gift exchange on your street, giving a present to a neighbour who helped to make your 2020 better, or even host a community Christmas lunch.
Let us know how you’re giving back in your community in December by emailing: info@neighbourhoodsupport.co.nz

This event, known as a grand conjunction, happens about once every 20 years, and in New Zealand it will be about 2am on 22 December.
There's also a penumbral lunar eclipse coming up this Monday 30 November, between 8:30pm and 1am. It would be entirely visible from NZ, but unfortunately the weather is forecast to be cloudy at that time, so there might not be much to see, and as it's only a penumbral one, it wouldn't be a "blood moon" anyway.

Northland woman Claire Wihongi-Matene is facing seven charges brought forward by the Ministry of Health due to manufacturing illegal dentures.
The charges include one of claiming to be a health practitioner and another six charges of performing a restricted activity. The Kaikohe woman could potentially face a maximum of a $190,000 fine and is currently awaiting trial.
Wihongi-Matene is defending the charges stating that she only wishes to help those that cannot afford basic dental care in her community.
"It started off with like aunties and uncles and you know the whānau and just helping them out and then, of course, word of mouth - they told their friends and next minute like I just had people coming from all over."

We'd be keen to hear about your favourite summer holiday spots in NZ. Is there somewhere you keep returning to year after year and, if so, what are the main attractions? What makes it such a stand-out spot? Any tips you may be able to offer on the best things to see and do there - as well as the best places to grab a drink or bite to eat - would be much appreciated. Please put 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you don't want it to appear in a travel article. Thanks again.

Once the emerging preferred corridor has been identified, and after they have met with potentially affected landowners, they will publish the emerging preferred corridor on their website. The next round of engagement will get underway in early-2021 and will be focussed more on highway design elements including intersections, access and walking and cycling.
