It was during the live televised name reveal for Ryman Healthcare’s new Cambridge village on TVNZ’s Breakfast that presenter Matty McClean happened upon Doug.
The resulting hilarious sequence of dry, but complimentary-to-Ryman, one-liners left the audience calling for Doug to have his own show. One fan even touted him as the next PM!
What viewers didn’t know, however, was that behind the droll exterior, Doug was dealing with the loss of his beloved wife Jan.

Boston Projects and Foxtail Events are hosting a Community Planting Day on Saturday, 27 January from 10am – 2pm, and the whole of Karori is invited to attend and participate in this fun day out.
Bring your gumboots, trowels, spades, forks and a bunch of energy and enthusiasm to help make our town centre fantastic! A bottle or water, sunhat and sunscreen is super important too!
This grass roots initiative is fully reliant on the support of the Karori community and there are a number of ways that you can contribute to this project. For example, we need more plants (i.e native grasses and bushes, succulents flowering plants, wildflowers, bulbs, herbs, or edible plants). Anything will be considered.
We are also looking for a local talented artist to create a mural and someone to regularly help keep the section tidy with some strimming of the grass.
If you are able to volunteer your time with either of these, then please get in touch with Boston Projects at hello@bostonprojects.co.nz
We look forward to seeing you there!

Why not let me handle your bookkeeping and admin nightmares, so you can go back to being the superhero parent/spouse/fun-loving individual you always aspired to be on evenings and weekends?
Ever thought about bringing in a Virtual Assistant to rescue you from the clutches of office paperwork and number crunching?
Fun fact: Hiring a Virtual Assistant is way lighter on your wallet than adding a cubicle-dweller to the mix!
I'm not just any Certified Bookkeeper and Xero advisor — I'm the office admin wizard you never knew you needed. I've got a knack for turning chaos into order, and I've been practicing my dance moves for the day I finally achieve the paperless office dream (weird, right?). Oh, and don't worry, I'm slightly OCD about numbers, but in a charming way!
With more than two decades navigating the wild world of trades-based businesses, I've seen it all. As a former owner and/or office manager, I've survived bad language and chuckled at politically incorrect jokes like a pro. Let's make your business management as entertaining as a stand-up comedy show — minus the two-drink minimum.
LET ME HELP YOU GET YOUR LIFE BACK!!
