We will be carrying out urgent repairs to the water supply network on Johnston Street and Featherston Street from 10am until 2pm on Monday 6 April.

We recommend affected properties fill up containers with water before 10am and avoid running your dishwasher and washing machine during this time.

When the water supply is turned back on, it’s a good idea to open a cold tap slowly then let it run for a minute or so to clear any air bubbles that may have entered the system. Air can cause the water to turn a milky colour, but this won’t affect the taste, and should clear quickly.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this outage and will update you if any of the above should change.

During the heightened response to Covid-19, we are still progressing with critical projects. Some of the work involved in these projects may include a short interruption to your water supply.

Usually we let our customers know about this with a letter a couple of days beforehand. But, to ensure the safety of our community and frontline essential staff, letter drops have stopped.

We’ll continue to do our absolute best to inform you about planned service interruptions using other methods such as:
• Loud speakers
• Signs up in the street
• Social media
• Website updates

Of course, during service failures like bursts the water can be interrupted without warning. In times like these we will respond by having water available on site and letting you know about it via social media.

Council contact centres are will have this information too – so please give them a call in the first instance.

With everyone staying home, it’s now more important than ever for everyone to be fire-safe. People can find information on our website - fireandemergency.nz...

We’re heading into winter, and with households self-isolating together, there’ll be more cooking at home, and more use of open fires, heaters, and dryers - all things which can increase fire risk.

New Zealanders can be confident that Fire and Emergency is well-prepared and ready to respond to emergencies as usual during the nationwide self- isolation period.

Please call 111 if you have a fire, we will ask you whether anyone at the address is self-isolating or has a confirmed case of COVID-19. Where this is the case, we already have necessary measures in place to ensure everyone’s safety including protective clothing, gloves, masks, safety glasses and mask.
