The corner of Hospital Rd in Newtown used to be an awkwardly shaped, unloved patch of grass above a sewer line.
Now, it’s a thriving urban farm, packed with fresh produce everywhere a spot can be found.
Farm manager Rory Lenihan-Ikin says it has taken a lot of hard work and a special effort to collect compost.
For $40 a week, contributing members can collect a weekly carton of organic vegetables, and can have their food scraps collected from their door.
The compost is made on-site, carefully tended by staff and volunteers who monitor it daily to ensure it has the proper chocolate hue, the optimum amount of moisture levels, and the right amount of life.
