We are looking for min 1 bed (no studios) in Kilbirnie/Khandallah/Ngaio/Thorndon/Central/Johnsonville areas and somewhere that will be accessible for a pregnant person (no steep stairs or hills!).
We can also offer our 3 bedroom home in Muri beach as a house swap for this time if this would suit anyone wanting to escape Wellingtons winter!
Thanks in advance, finding short term lets are proving to be really difficult!

In the last of the 2018 series Mark Bagnall, the Curator of the Cartographic Collection, will explore the history, context and use of Thomas Ward’s 102 sheet, detailed map of Wellington completed in 1891. This 3-year project mapped the area of the original town acres of Wellington at 40 feet to 1 inch. It showed every building, road and item of street furniture within the original Wellington city limits, detailing building materials and layouts, locations of outhouses and size of the water reticulation pipes.
Once completed Ward’s City of Wellington map became a significant document in planning Wellington’s infrastructure, Ward being contracted to update the map for several years thereafter. This talk looks at the history of the map, the context in which it was produced, and how it was used for urban planning in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Mark Bagnall is the Curator, Cartographic, Alexander Turnbull Library. Previously, he has worked in Collection Development, Reference Services and Cataloguing at the National Library, Macmillan Brown Centre, University of Canterbury, and Lincoln University.

We don’t think much about the sea now, of its storms and dangers. But in the 19th century, for those living on an island like New Zealand, reached only by ship, the sea had huge significance, both practical and metaphorical. This talk looks at a selection of fascinating books which have come into the Turnbull collections by way of the sea, and speculates on some of the more outlandish meanings of the ocean in the contexts of these stories and their acquisition.
Dr Fiona Oliver is the Curator NZ & Pacific Publications at the Alexander Turnbull Library. She is also the Managing Editor of the Turnbull Library Record, and in 2014 curated the exhibition Extreme South: Antarctica imagined for the Turnbull Gallery.

To celebrate these awesome people, and to make the most of being outdoors in the sunshine, we thought it was the perfect time for a rock hunt.
We've hidden some #loveeverydrop rocks around Lower Hutt, and if you find one and bring it in to Wellington Water's office and you will receive a prize.
So put your explorer boots on, slap on some sunscreen, and get hunting around the Lower Hutt region as there are only 10 to be found.
Over the next few weeks we'll be hiding some rocks in Porirua, Wellington and Upper Hutt, so keep your eyes peeled to find out when the rocks are in your region.
