Many former refugees in New Zealand are reliant on public transport to get around but might struggle to afford or access facemasks once this new rule comes in place. I have organised with Red Cross to collect donations of reusable masks which the refugee support services office at Red Cross will distribute among their clients who need it.
If you would like to support this cause there are a few different ways you can do so.
1)If you are a crafty sewer you can donate some of your homemade masks.
2) you could support someone else who is making and selling masks by buying one or two to donate.
3) you could simply donate money which will be used to buy masks ($10 each) to donate from a couple of small business sewers in Lower Hutt.
I am happy to drive around wellington/Lower Hutt to collect mask donations or you can drop them in to my place if you just happen to find yourself passing through Stokes Valley. If you would like to donate money for me to buy masks to donate you can pop the money into this account: SW & MG Hiess 06-0773-0812545-05.
Thanks heaps! Please feel free to share this post with all your crafty/generous friends

Event manager Michael Jacques, said the decision to cancel was disappointing, especially for the runners who had been training, but they needed to turn their attention to the 2021 event.
The 2250 registered runners would not be receiving a refund, but would be able to enter for free next year.
Jacques said the decision to cancel was "especially gutting" as it was the 35th anniversary of the marathon, which is the longest running running event in Wellington.

From the Club’s over 70 years membership database 50 members were drawn randomly and were delivered two meals each in late July.
The generous gesture by the staff was in appreciation of the Club’s support of staff throughout the Covid lockdown with all staff receiving 100% of their wages and none being made redundant. Previously staff had donated goods to the local Foodbank.
The Club received amazing feedback from the lucky members drawn:
“What a big surprise I got this morning when you lovely people called to give me two roast meals. Thank you, thank you so very much. It’s the first time I’ve won anything from the Cossie Club.” - Jeannette Duffield.
“Just a big thanks to the Staff at the Cossie club for the roast meals I received yesterday. The donation was most unexpected but delicious.” - Grant Sinclair.
The response on Facebook has also been overwhelming.
Pictured are some of the members who received the meals with the staff who delivered them.
