There’s still time to have your say on the speed limit changes we’re proposing to a number of local roads and near some schools.

To improve safety, we’re proposing 40km/h variable speed limits around Matua Primary School, Tauranga Intermediate School, Aquinas College, Golden Sands Primary School and Taumata School zones; and lowering the speed limit on sections of Ohauiti Road, Welcome Bay Road, Kaitemako Road, Oropi Road, Pyes Pa Road, Totara Street, Parton Road, Tara Road, Domain Road, Maranui Street and Papamoa Beach Road.

These are areas of the city where we have received ongoing complaints about the speed limits and where the city has changed from a rural environment to an urban environment.

Let us know what you think. Submissions close 27 November 2020.

We'll just enjoy the vista from the looking platform as, you need to be very fit to descend the umpteen steps to the beach. Our next stop will be at Cathedral Cove Macadamias. We'll receive a talk about how the orchard runs through the year & view the processing facilities.
"Our macadamias are hand-picked & certified organic. Macadamias are high in fibre & anti-oxidants; contain vitamins A, B group and E, are high in beneficial mono-unsaturated fats and are cholesterol free." This venue has a large range of macadamia products which you can purchase, if you're so-inclined. But we warn you - their macadamia brittle is addictive!
At our next venue, Hot Water Brewing Co, you will get a chance to sample liqueurs from Purangi Estate (Our favorite was the Manuka Honey Liqueur.)or craft beer or green/Black/ & Lapsang Souchon teas, with a piece of pizza to wash them down.
We'll proceed to Mercury Bay Estate for shared platters for lunch & a flight of wines or tea/coffee, & dine in the evening at The Lost Spring.

Tauranga faces a “challenging” funding shortfall over the next 10 years because of the city’s rapid growth.

Up to $4.3 billion needs to be invested in in roads, parks, pipes, stormwater systems and other infrastructure to open up land for new homes and cater to the intensification of Te Papa peninsula. This is approximately double what we currently invest in such projects.

We’ll consult with you about this challenge early next year as we prepare our Long-term Plan 2021-31.

Here is a fun and easy way to reuse a plastic bottle! These are the basic instructions for creating a plastic bottle planter. Creative fun for the kids and recycling those plastic bottles? We call that a win-win.
They look adorable with succulents (cactus or herbs would also work) and chances are the planters will last for a while.

You’ll need:
• Plastic bottles
• Sharpie
• Acrylic paint & brushes
• Pencil (for sketching details)
• Scissors

1. Use the sharpie to mark out the shape of your animal on the bottle.
2. With scissors roughly cut out your shapes. After the top of the bottle is removed go back around and clean up the edges. Wipe clean (make sure bottle is clean and dry).3. Paint the bottle with chosen shade of acrylic paint, this will take several coats. Tip: use a hair dryer to speed drying between coats. Spray paint made for plastic can be used if you already have a can at home.
4. Once dry, use the pencil to sketch the eyes, mouth, and other details, and paint over with your desired colours.
5. Fill with soil and your favourite succulents. These also make cute containers to keep anything in (pencils, food, toys, beads) as well as colourful décor for your kids’ room.

We hope you enjoyed our tutorial and if you make a one we would love to see a picture!
