Taupō District was originally set to host the 2020 edition of the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship on November 28-29, prior to the event cancellation due to the ongoing and widespread impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Trewavas said he was thrilled to see the district secure the world championship event which will be held on December 10-11, 2022.
“We are ecstatic that as the home of IRONMAN in New Zealand we have been able to work with IRONMAN to secure the event for 2022,” Mayor Trewavas said.
“We had already laid some solid foundations in preparing to host the world’s top triathletes and this additional time will allow us to offer an extremely polished event that will showcase both the Taupō District and New Zealand to the rest of the world.”

“I would like to nominate and THANK our great neighbour's living at Viv Davie Martin Drive for their creativity and huge effort during lock down. They lifted all our spirits with their daily Teddy bear reenactment on how to keep busy. Each day people came to see what Teddy bear was up to. With keen interest kids in our neighbourhood even gave Teddy a proper name...meet Vincent LOL! It's through times like this that such acts of goodness should be acknowledged and the memories they hold forever treasured. A selected few photos of Vincent's daily lockdown activities "thanks Vincent :)"

The draft strategy sets out a number of key themes and ideas that council hopes will start the conversation to help inform its long-term transport priorities and direction.
Mayor David Trewavas said it was important to hear feedback from the community on the draft strategy.
“Our top priority is safety for our users, but on top of that there are a number of other priorities that we’d like your feedback on – from creating a cycling and walking friendly district to ensuring resilient infrastructure and supporting a vibrant district,” he said.
“We are also asking a number of questions covering safety on rural roads, intersection and traffic flow, how to better support vibrancy through infrastructure, pedestrian and cycling connections and crossings.”
Feedback on the draft Transport Strategy is open from midday, Tuesday 4 August – 5pm, Friday 4 September 2020.

Does anyone know who a big stocky all black belongs to near Laughton or Scannell St ? It may come further afield. It’s hanging around my place. Today I noticed a big red open wound on the back near the tail. Probably been in a cat fight. Just concerned. Sorry couldn’t get a photo.
