The draft strategy sets out a number of key themes and ideas that council hopes will start the conversation to help inform its long-term transport priorities and direction.
Mayor David Trewavas said it was important to hear feedback from the community on the draft strategy.
“Our top priority is safety for our users, but on top of that there are a number of other priorities that we’d like your feedback on – from creating a cycling and walking friendly district to ensuring resilient infrastructure and supporting a vibrant district,” he said.
“We are also asking a number of questions covering safety on rural roads, intersection and traffic flow, how to better support vibrancy through infrastructure, pedestrian and cycling connections and crossings.”
Feedback on the draft Transport Strategy is open from midday, Tuesday 4 August – 5pm, Friday 4 September 2020.

Does anyone know who a big stocky all black belongs to near Laughton or Scannell St ? It may come further afield. It’s hanging around my place. Today I noticed a big red open wound on the back near the tail. Probably been in a cat fight. Just concerned. Sorry couldn’t get a photo.

Later this month we’ll be celebrating the 30th anniversary of Daffodil Day, the most important day in our fundraising calendar. A day that relies on the support of more than 11,000 volunteers.
Money raised goes towards support services, education and awareness programmes, and to fund vital research into the causes and treatments of all types of cancers.
Our 30th Daffodil Day is on Friday 28th August.
Please support the superhero volunteers in your neighborhood with a donation to the Cancer Society, donate online at daffodilday.org.nz or at your local ANZ branch.

The options for doing so are endless! Being kind doesn’t have to cost a thing, after all a smile is free. For those who want to go the extra mile, here’s some other ideas: Buy extra kai at the grocery store to donate to a food bank, build a free community library for your street, bring treats into work for colleagues, send an encouraging text to someone who needs it, let a car into the traffic ahead of you, take a gift over to new neighbours and introduce yourself, write positive messages in chalk on sidewalks around your neighbourhood, or surprise loved ones with a visit.
This month’s theme also coincides with Random Acts of Kindness Day (New Zealand) which is coming up on September 1st.
Let us know how you’re spreading kindness in your community by tagging us in your posts + using the following hashtag so we can see what you get up to:

The four-phase project aims to ‘transform our public places into people spaces to drive economic development’ and is expected to provide 92 full-time equivalent positions during its delivery.
The project will start with the upgrade of the Ruapehu and Tuwharetoa Street intersection, the fifth of eight town centre intersections to be transformed. Work will begin on Monday, August 10 and is expected to take 16 weeks. The upgrade of the Gascoigne and Paora Hapi Streets and Horomatangi and Ruapehu Streets will follow.
Phase two will be providing a safe and convenient alternative for vehicles not wanting to access the CBD using Titiraupenga Street, phase three the transformation of Tongariro Street from the Spa Road roundabout to Lake Terrace and from Lake Terrace to Titiraupenga Street, and phase four the development of an environment conducive to alfresco dining and social interaction in Tuwharetoa Street.
