Innovative Young Minds (IYM)

Rhondda Sweetman from Plimmerton Rotary

At our weekly meeting we heard from Brian Smellie of Hutt City, one of the organisers of the Innovative Young Minds Programme held for the first time in July, and from Sophie Miller, one of the participants, who attends Samuel Marsden in Whitby. This was clearly a great initiative and Brian assured us that it will be repeated. IYM is a technology and innovation programme for young women in the Wellington region, targeted at Year 11 and 12 students.A technology and innovation programme for young women in the Wellington region
Innovative Young Minds (IYM) is designed to attract and engage young women to the field of technology. Targeted at Year 11 and Year 12 students, IYM was a week-long residential programme that ran from 9-14 July, 2017.

It’s well known that diversity in the workplace leads to more innovation. Women are under-represented in the STEMM sector (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and manufacturing) and Hutt Science (a Hutt City Council initiative), Rotary Hutt City and Hutt Valley High School want to change that.

Congratulations to everyone who completed the 2017 programme on the 14th July. Details for 2018 will be posted by October.

We want to know: As the world evolves, what skills do you think give a CV the ultimate edge in a robot-filled workplace?

Emma’s wedding dress reveal tells a different love story

Charles Fleming Retirement Village

A Valentine’s-inspired wedding dress show at Ryman Healthcare’s Logan Campbell Village is providing the perfect opportunity for residents to share memories of their romantic day.

But for Emma Muller, it has also turned into an opportunity to celebrate her late daughter Nicola, who died 19 years ago at the age of 37.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
