Location: Picton
Organisation: Picton Heritage and Whaling Museum
Picton is the gateway to the South Island and the Picton Museum is the gateway to learning about heritage. If you're friendly, enjoy meeting new people, and you would like to learn more about local history, then this is the role for you! You don't need to already know lots of history; it's easy to learn as you go.
Volunteers can help with a variety of tasks at the museum, including guiding visitors, answering their questions, processing sales from the small gift shop (books and jewellery), recording basic visitor statistics, and assisting with research requests. This is a great way to learn about the history of Waitohi/Picton and the Sounds, gain customer service experience, and meet new people!
Volunteers will be given all necessary training and will be paired with a more experienced volunteer for the first few shifts (at least).
Volunteers are expected to commit to one shift (two hours) per month minimum.
To find out more about this role, click the 'read more' button below.
Alternatively, you can call 03-577 9388 (between 10am and 2pm), send us a message on Neighbourly or social media, or emailvm@volunteermarlborough.org.nz.

New Zealand Police's Financial Intelligence Unit estimates New Zealanders lose $20-30 million annually to scams.
HOW TO AVOID A SCAM:
+ A genuine bank or organisation will never contact you to ask for your PIN, password or to move money to another account.
+ Never click on a link in an unexpected email or text – you could be giving access to your personal and financial details.
+ Always question uninvited approaches in case it is a scam. Instead, contact the company directly using a known email or phone number.
+ Don’t assume an email or phone call is authentic – just because someone knows your basic details (name and address, or mother’s maiden name) it doesn’t mean they are genuine.
+ Don’t be rushed into making a decision or financial transaction on the spot – a genuine bank or trusted organisation would never do this.
+ Listen to your instincts – if something feels wrong then it generally is.
If you believe you are the victim of a scam you can contact Police and report the matter via 105.
