Dunedin commuters have been warned to expect the hunt for free, all-day parking to become increasingly difficult in the city centre.

The comment by Dunedin City Council transport group manager Richard Saunders came as councillors at yesterday's full council meeting considered the latest round of proposed parking changes in the city.

The proposal, to be released for public consultation, would result in about 150 car parks around Dunedin Hospital, Otago Museum, the University of Otago and in Vogel St switched from free to $1 or $2-an-hour metered parks.

For the month of November, we want to raise awareness for all forms including family harm, elder and child abuse, sexual assault, gang violence, and more.

Perhaps sign-up to volunteer at a women’s refuge this month or work with the Police in your area to host an info night on how to identify elder abuse in your community.

With her hand stuck in a letterbox on a deserted street, a Dunedin woman feared her arm would be amputated.

The health professional, who declined to be named because of "sheer embarrassment", said the incident unfolded at her Loyalty St home about 10am on Thursday.

Rather than use her key to open her new metal letterbox, she "thought I could put my hand in and grab the mail out" - but it got stuck.

Hey neighbours!
My family and I are currently living in a motel (have done for 3 1/2 months) through transitional housing. As you can imagine we are desperate to get out.
My partner and I have 3 girls 5, 3 and 2 plus one small shitzu (who cannot stay with us while in the motel 🙁) , we would prefer to have some sort of parking but it isn't essential. The girls attend kindy and school in the south end of dunedin so not wanting to move to far away, we are considering any of the flat suburbs out this way (as I don't drive so want to be in walking distance of the girls destinations ) e.g caversham, south dunedin, st Kilda, st clair, forbury, andersons bay, Musselburgh, tainui somewhere around these areas. We are struggling with property managers as they can't see past a credit rating (😣)so would prefer a private landlord. We are very reliable and friendly people who can provide plenty of refernces to a lovely landlord who is willing to give us a chance and get us out of this motel! Feel free to share this around.
I can send Contact details through private message also!
Thank you everyone

However, critics say they’re dangerous and people are injured by them every year. Fans, on the other hand, argue that all fun involves some level of risk, it just needs to be managed safely.

Last year, we saw a 23% drop in the number of fireworks-related injury claims (171 claims across 2017 versus 223 across 2016). What do you think? Should personal fireworks be banned? Click here for advice on how to use fireworks responsibly.
