Our wastewater pump stations and treatment plants are not able to cope with the extra volume of wastewater, and this can result in a wastewater overflow.
We always recommend you do not swim in harbours and rivers following heavy rainfalls, for at least 48 hours.
Recent rain has overloaded our wastewater system in parts of Hutt Valley and Wainuiomata, which lead to some overflows today into streams and the harbour, in the following consented locations:
- Waiwhetu Stream, Seaview
- Wellington Rd, Wainuiomata
- Bluff Point, Pencarrow
Please note the following:
- Regional Public Health recommends no swimming in the affected area.
- Health Warning signs will be posted around the immediate areas

1) Common interests keep you together. They won't if you don't interact in a positive way when engaging in common interests. (Remember, 5:1!)
2) Never go to bed angry. If you're flooded and you need a break, sleeping on it isn't a bad idea at all.
3) Couples therapy is for fixing a broken marriage. Couples therapy can help repair serious issues, but it's more effective as preventative maintenance.
4) Affairs are the main cause of divorce. False. According to a study, 80 percent of divorced men and women cited growing apart as the reason for divorce.
5) Marriages benefit from a "relationship contract." Instead of keeping score of who does what for whom, building a culture of appreciation in your marriage is a much better approach.

National Volunteer Week celebrates the 1.2 million Kiwis who volunteer in our communities every year. The theme for 2018: Volunteers, The Heart of our Community – By many, the work will be completed, Mā tini, mā mano, ka rapa te whai, captures the essence of the volunteering spirit and the essential link between volunteers and the communities who benefit from their generosity. The event will run from June 17-23, 2018.

In light of the inclement weather forecast (which is likely to extend the duration of the works), we have decided to reschedule this work until the summer – ideally over the holiday period when the road is not as busy.
Affected businesses will be formally notified of this tomorrow, and we will be in touch with local businesses and residents closer to the time when the weather has improved and there is a new date for work to begin.
-------------------
Contractors will be doing road resurfacing work on Waione Street, Petone, from Monday 11 June.
The work will affect the eastbound lane of Waione Street, from the Kirkaldy Street intersection eastwards to East Street. The work is expected to take four weeks, weather permitting.
Eastbound traffic will be diverted into East Street (represented by the yellow line on the accompanying map). Traffic delays are expected and motorists are asked to use alternative routes, where possible.
Motorists will still be able to access properties and businesses.
A temporary bus stop will be set up on East Street for those that would normally use Bus Stop 9151 on Waione Street at the Kirkcaldy Street intersection.
We ask you for your patience during this period and to please take direction from contractors’ traffic controllers.
