STORM UPDATE 9.15pm 13 July 2017: WAINUIOMATA RIVER RISING.

Hutt City Council

Heavy rain continues to fall and the Wainuiomata River is rising. The Lower Hutt Emergency Management Office has activated and we’re monitoring the situation closely with crews on the ground.
If you live near the Wainuiomata River please be aware of the situation.
If the river continues to rise you may need to leave your home. This means think now about things you may want to move to higher ground and family and friends you can stay with outside the area.
If you are asked to leave your home and you don’t have anywhere to go, the Wainuiomata Community Hub on Queen Street Wainuiomata is open.
If you have storm-related issues on your property please report them by calling council on 04 570 6666.
If you are concerned for your personal safety, as always please call 111

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
