It's called the Beltway and will provide a connection between residential areas, workplaces, the hospital, public transport, schools, the CBD and shopping centres. We want to use the rail corridor to create a cycling 'spine', extending between Seaview and Taita. It will also link to the Wainuiomata shared pathway, the Eastern Bays shared pathway and Hutt River Trail.
Come along to our open session on Saturday 25 February to hear more and share your feedback on our plans. Drop in anytime from 11am to 2pm at The Dowse Art Museum, 45 Laings Road (James Coe 2 meeting room). See you there!

This one day event will explore
(i) the importance of community life, especially for people who are marginalised
(ii) influences and practices that tend to isolate people
(iii) what it takes to hold a vision for community life
(iv) how to build bridges and pathways within community life
(v) how to overcome obstacles
(vi) how to create a context for relationship, and
(vii) sustaining our efforts over time.
Janet says “this work would be helpful in discovering how to be more fully connected within our community, more fully present within our community and that learning to build and recognise bridges within community is a strong path forward. Much of what we have to work with is there already. We just need to see things in a slightly different way”

We have a number of quite large, very hungry caterpillars, and no more swan plants (like I said they are hungry). Does anyone have any swan plants that we could have, or alternatively, would anyone like to adopt our caterpillars. They are currently living on pumpkin and cucumber.
Thanks

This is your chance to celebrate your hood by sharing stories, photos or video. We really want to see and hear about the people in your neighbourhood. Portraits or videos of our neighbourhood champions, or the people that to you personify your community or ‘hood’. This year we’re doing it a little differently. To help focus (excuse the photography pun) we’ve chosen three themes.
1 – I Heart the History of My Hood
Everywhere we live has history, and stories. Do you know your hood’s history? Or maybe you know someone who has lived in the community for what seems like a million years, and know the place like that back of their hand. Was your hood the birth place of the women’s vote, or maybe site of the biggest lamington ever made way back in 53′ ….(Yes I know, random, but honestly we’re interesting in anything and everything)… By the way – this is also an awesome way to get our older ‘story tellers’ involved.
2 – I Heart Diversity in my Hood
New Zealand really has become a melting pot and that brings with it the rainbow of diversity of all kinds. Maybe you have the ‘united nations’ living on one street, maybe your neighbourhood pot luck dinners are better and more interesting than an international food fair could every dream of! We want to see and hear about it.
3 – I Heart My Healthy Hood
With our clean green image, amazing fresh foods, picture perfect outdoor environment, we know there are neighbourhoods out there that personify ‘health’. Is your neighbourhood or neighbour one of them? It could be through a neighbourhood walking group, or a ‘from garden to plate thanks to the shared neighbourhood community garden’ kind of thing. It might be a neighbourhood that has committed to getting the kids off screens and outside, or maybe its a whole street of cross fit power vegans ….. probably not … but you never know. What ever it is, we want to see and hear about it.
To enter go to our website and ‘share your story’
So get snapping and chatting. We have more information on I Heart My Hood available on facebook and on our website.

There is no argument that since mid-winter and up to now in Wellington-Hutt Valley we have had a continuous spring or to put it another way, we are having a lovely winter for the last nine months.
This year I did get a touch of summer in Ohope which suited its name - we live in hope.
Methinks that we might get a nice March-April but who needs 'summer' then as the temperatures are unlikely to reach much past 18c..
The Guns and Roses concert and the Sevens event on the Sunday both at Westpac Stadium summed up our summer: piss poor!

We are still taking enrolments for our choirs for Term 1 for 2017! We've had a wonderful response from Neighbourly some fantastic publicity on stuff.co.nz and in print in the Upper Hutt Leader. Perhaps you saw our story?
All are welcome to pop along to a rehearsal to see how we work with the kids and what we sing!!
We rehearse locally too.
Current members are aged 4 to teens and are already sounding great!
Being a volunteer organisation our fees are low compared to other children's activities, and we offer scholarships for those that are interested . Applications close on 18/2 - so there is still time to apply via our website: majorminors.instantencore.com

Three days of clear test results are required before Wellington Water stops the temporary chlorination of the Lower Hutt water supply. As we’ve now had three days of clear testing, the temporary chlorination has now stopped as agreed with Regional Public Health. You may continue to notice a taste or odour in your water for a few more days as the chlorinated water works its way through the reticulated network.
