Resident Marj Kennedy (pictured) has been attending the SAYGo (steady as you go) classes for four years now and says she’s seen her balance improve overtime thanks to the sessions.
“Exercise is good for our bodies and it keeps me young in spirit too. I like that it’s a class we do altogether,” Marj says
The low-impact session SAYGo, created by Age Concern, aims to improve balance, flexibility and strength in older people through arm and leg exercises, while seated or standing.
Village Manager Andrea Allott says she encourages her residents to keep active.
“Once they get into the routine our residents look forward to exercise and it keeps their minds active and the laughter coming too,” Andrea says.

“I am 83 living alone. My neighbours Grant and Annette Phillips were wonderful during the lockdown, getting my shopping and taking me to the dentist when I broke my dentures and had no way of getting them mended. When I needed help in an emergency they were there for me reattaching the connections under my bed which I could not get to.They have taken me to doctors appointments and helped when I needed help in the house after a fall and when my Medic Alarm has been activated.”

Great idea they have, poor execution of plan unfortunately.
Before anyone thinks i don't have a heart, i care deeply for the situation of people out there in our community, but i also understand we need to keep our local CBD ready and waiting for local retailers, business's etc but by placing this Hostel in the CBD it's going to drive shops etc away from from Upper Hutt.
