The often maligned Wainuiomata has plenty going for it with stacks of undeveloped land for housing, a new retirement village and the nearly deserted mall having recently been bought. Do you think Wainui is set for a new era of prosperity?

Point Howard Wharf is now closed to allow repair work to be completed.
The wharf is regularly inspected, and the most recent check identified concerns with two piles.
We're expecting the work to be finished in about three weeks' time.

It's the summer of all summers but will there be a cicada chorus to soundtrack it? The arrival of the chorus cicada, New Zealand's most common and loudest cicada, is anything but a given and will not be overtly influenced by our record-breaking weather. How many have you heard?

I'm not having a go at this poor person who lost these chickens, I just think it's a timely reminder to us all. I have a couple of rabbits who really love to lick a frozen bottle of water or a large ice cube. I just add water to a small - medium container freeze it & wow they love licking it. I do the same sort of thing for our chickens. I add a frozen bottle of water to each of their water containers & they really love the cooler water. As for my border collie Buddy, he loves crunching ice cubes, loves having cool showers & loves the multiple shadey areas he has access to. Buddy & the chickens & the rabbits (inside their 3 teir enclosure) love hanging out in the cool areas. I have a saying "if you are hot & bothered & reaching for that cold drink, think about our pet friends who are also hot & bothered, also needing some cool relief". Hey have a safe one.

The car had two windows open a finger distance apart. We called the SPCA & they told us to ring the police. We did that, called the pound to come down. Turns out the owner of both dog & car started work at 6am, left the dog in the car outside of their work. We found it at 11.30ish. The pound took the dog away, with pleads from us not to give the dog back. A couple stated they would take the dog. Don't know what happened to the owner. But really what an idiot. (Wanted to add something a lot stronger here). Why why why. What would possess someone to o that. Please think of our pets they rely on us and only us. Do the right thing.
