THAMES HERITAGE FESTIVAL
Thames Heritage Festival 2020, with the theme ‘One Town, Many Tales’, takes place this weekend on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March at Bella Street Pump House, Thames Goldmine Experience, Historic Kōpū Bridge, Thames Small Gauge Railway, Thames School of Mines with Rock Shop & Mineral Museum, Thames Treasury - Archive & Research Centre, and Thames Museum. The events around these sites in Cochrane St, Queen St, Bella St and Brown St, and at Kōpū , include gold panning; 19th century gold mining machinery in action at the Goldmine Experience; talks and Q&A chats with experts; Russell Skeet’s guided Grahamstown walk and a leisurely stroll with storytelling on Historic Kōpū Bridge; small gauge train rides, music, pioneer days storyathon at Thames museum with Rosalie the Thames Storyteller and more. Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
