Kaiaua floods?
We cyclists that travel the stopbanks from Totara to Waitakaruru have been able to see the excellent job these levees have done in protecting the adjoining lands and its infrasructure from the January storm surge. Yet why has Kaiaua and much of the seabird coast been left with virtually zero protection? Surely past flood events have supplied more than sufficient warnings.

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
