Tamaterau beach and reserve has a rich cultural history dating back 700 - 800 years. In 1928 it was named Tamaterau Domain before being classified as a recreation reserve in 1953 and renamed as Tamaterau Domain Recreation Reserve.
In 1980, its name was formally changed to "Devonshire Park" in recognition of Charlie Devonshire, a local teacher who played a role in ecologically restoring the reserve.
Some members of the community and representatives of the local hapū have now requested it be renamed as "Te Whenua Tāpui o Tamaterau", which translates to Tamaterau Reserve.
They feel the reference of Devonshire in the current name does not reflect the long history of the area, as it highlights only one person's contribution over a short period of time.
The new Council will consider the name change after the election - please send your feedback through this link by 4:00pm on Tuesday 18 October 2022.

Okay, let’s start at the beginning…times have changed, and nobody is going to ask you to hop on your bike or walk the streets delivering newspapers!! It’s done in the comfort of your car and you will be paid a decent car allowance
If you are an early riser, this is a good opportunity to earn some good money in a role that you’ll get full training and where you pick up your newspapers and run sheet/addresses each morning and off you go!
The job is varied and good fun - many of the folk who are delivering newspapers have worked in the role for over 10 years and are themselves 50 plus. You are your own boss, delivering to the same route daily.

Benediction
UK, 2021, Biographical drama
Cast: Jack Lowden, Peter Capaldi
Duration: 135 mins, Rated M
Written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker, Terence Davies and intermixed with archival footage of the period, this story details the life of Siegfried Sassoon.
A complex man who survived the horrors of fighting in the First World War, Sassoon, was decorated for his bravery on the battlefield. But he also became a vocal critic of the government’s continuation of the war when he returned from service.
Sassoon's poetry was inspired by his experiences on the Western Front and he was one of the leading war poets of the era. Adored by the aristocracy as well as stars of London’s literary and stage world, Sassoon remained broken by his time in the war and made his life’s journey a quest for personal salvation.
Brilliant cinema. A lyrical and spiritual masterpiece. - Celluloid Dreams
