Derelict Tokanui Hospital site in line for a clean-up

The former psychiatric hospital, southeast of Te Awamutu, sits on land taken from Ngāti Maniapoto under the Public Works Act in 1910.

Taupō-nui-a-Tia College will be closed for the rest of this week, and possibly for longer as students begin online classes, and unofficial estimates for repair to a devastating school fire could head into the millions.

The school’s entire N-block (Nelson Block) building, and its adjoining Bay Trust Health Centre, were completely destroyed in an alleged arson on Sunday, February 8.
