If you are heading out and leaving your dog at home alone, just a word of caution, please ensure your property is secure and your canine is safe, including in this hot weather, access to shade and water.

For those new owners of little puppies, be vigilant with the Christmas presents, puppies love to explore and chew and sadly many end up at vet clinics, suffering ill effects as a result of having consumed small objects that end up on the floor during our Christmas celebrations.

Merry Christmas all.

In neighbourhoods across New Zealand, kids are looking forward to a Christmas that may not happen.

Forced to choose between food or bills, hard-working parents like Melody worry whether they’ll be able to provide even the simplest Christmas meal for their children.

“I’ll only eat dinner 2-3 times a week so that the children have enough food. This is very stressful… a lot of crying and minimal sleep.”

Food insecurity is the everyday reality for 98.8% of the families Variety helps.

Please donate today to provide grocery support for families like Melody’s this Christmas.

You've probably read about housing reforms that will allow large townhouses and towering apartment blocks to be built across most city suburbs.

Some Hamilton City councillors are already urging pushback, including Ryan Hamilton - who noted heritage and river health could be ways to do it.

“My direction ... to [council] staff will be to take those qualifying matters to the nth degree and ... push back so that we can get good future-proof, well-considered design for the city,” Hamilton said.
