Taupō ratepayers will cough up at least $1.35m to remove more than 10,000 tonnes of asbestos contaminated concrete found at its Broadlands Road Landfill.
At a meeting on Tuesday, Taupō district councillors voted unanimously to approve an additional $850,000, on top of an already budgeted $500,000, to have the cancer-causing material removed and trucked to a safe site in the north Waikato for disposal.
